What is a jetway?

A Jetway job typically involves assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking from aircraft using the jet bridge. Employees in this role may be responsible for operating the jet bridge, ensuring passenger safety, and coordinating with airline staff. It often requires good communication skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. Jetway personnel are commonly employed by airlines or airport service providers.

What are the common daily responsibilities of a jetway operator at an airport?

Jetway Operators are responsible for positioning, operating, and monitoring passenger boarding bridges to ensure safe and efficient passenger movement between the aircraft and terminal. Each shift typically involves inspecting equipment, coordinating with airline and ground crew, and operating the jet bridge according to strict safety procedures. Operators may also assist with reporting maintenance issues and ensuring that area access complies with security protocols. The role often requires close teamwork with other airport personnel and excellent communication to adapt to dynamic flight schedules.

Strong communication skills, reliability, and situational awareness distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure safe and efficient boarding processes, minimize delays, and maintain compliance with stringent airport safety standards.
