What is a JeffSTAT?

A JeffSTAT job refers to a position within the Jefferson Health System’s JeffSTAT program, which provides critical care transport services. This includes ground and air medical transport for critically ill or injured patients. Roles within JeffSTAT may include flight paramedics, critical care nurses, EMTs, and communication specialists. Employees in these roles work in high-pressure situations to ensure safe and efficient patient transportation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the JeffSTAT position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a JEFFSTAT team member (an EMT or Paramedic providing critical care transport with Jefferson Health), you need current EMT or Paramedic certification, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and experience in emergency medical services. Familiarity with ambulance technology, patient monitoring equipment, and electronic medical records systems is crucial. Exceptional decision-making, communication, and teamwork skills help you manage high-pressure clinical situations and interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. These competencies ensure safe, effective patient transport and seamless coordination in urgent care scenarios.

What are typical shift patterns and work environments like for JeffSTAT team members?

JEFFSTAT professionals commonly work rotating 12-hour shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as the service operates 24/7 to provide critical care transport. The work environment is dynamic and mobile, with time spent both in ambulances and collaborating with hospital staff at sending and receiving facilities. Team members regularly face fast-paced, high-pressure situations and are supported by a well-trained crew of fellow EMTs or Paramedics. This structure provides valuable experience in emergency medicine and exposure to a wide variety of clinical cases, making it an excellent pathway for professional growth in pre-hospital and critical care fields.
