What does a JavaScript developer do?

As a JavaScript developer, your main responsibilities are to code functional web applications using the JavaScript (JS) programming language and to patch and update application code as needed to optimize functionality. You program front-end code for web applications, collaborate with back-end developers, and use tools like integrated development environments (IDEs), Git, and browser dev tools.

What does a JavaScript developer do?

A JavaScript Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using the JavaScript programming language. They typically work on both the front-end (user interface) and sometimes the back-end (server-side) of web projects, creating interactive features, optimizing performance, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and other developers to deliver a seamless user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a JavaScript developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a JavaScript Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a solid understanding of web development principles, often backed by a degree in computer science or comparable experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems like Git, and build tools such as Webpack is typically required. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating on projects and resolving technical challenges. These skills and qualities ensure the delivery of robust, maintainable, and efficient web applications that meet user and business needs.

What are some common challenges faced by JavaScript developers when working on large-scale applications?

JavaScript Developers working on large-scale applications often encounter challenges such as maintaining code readability, managing dependencies, and ensuring performance optimization. As projects grow, it becomes essential to implement best practices like modularization, code reviews, and thorough testing to prevent bugs and technical debt. Collaboration with backend developers, designers, and QA testers is frequent, requiring clear communication and an agile mindset to deliver features efficiently and address issues as they arise.

Job description

Description

Build Your Technology Career with QuantumFlo

QuantumFlo is seeking a motivated and technically curious Junior Developer to join our Information Technology team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career technology professional who enjoys both software development and hands‑on IT problem-solving.

In this role, you will support the technology infrastructure that keeps our organization running while building your skills in programming, database management, systems administration, troubleshooting, testing, and cybersecurity.

If you enjoy solving problems, learning new technologies, and seeing how technology supports real‑world business operations, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As our Junior Developer, you’ll work closely with IT leadership and employees across the organization to support technology operations and development initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, network, and end-user technology issues.
  • Support workstations, printers, mobile devices, and other peripherals.
  • Maintain IT documentation and helpdesk records.
  • Support Microsoft SQL Server databases and assist with SQL queries.
  • Assist with servers, network equipment, and cloud-based applications.
  • Help maintain the security and integrity of company IT systems.
  • Assist with programming and development activities using C#, MVC Core, and JavaScript.
  • Support database management and continue developing skills in MS-SQL/T-SQL.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership on new technology implementations.
  • Work with version control and development tools such as Azure DevOps, Git, or Jira.
  • Develop and execute basic software test routines and support automated testing.
  • Follow cybersecurity policies, procedures, and IT security best practices.
  • Assist with technology risk assessments and other IT projects as needed.
What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines technical aptitude with a strong willingness to learn, and the minimum qualities listed below:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in C# and MVC Core, including JavaScript.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with Oracle, MySQL, or Sybase may also be considered for candidates willing to learn MS SQL.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, Jira, or similar version control/development tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows-based environments, networks, and hardware.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mobile environments, including iOS and Android.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical employees.

Requirements Even Better If You Have

These qualifications are helpful but not required:

  • Experience with PHP, Java/Android development, or Swift/iPhone development.
  • CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or similar technology certifications.
  • Understanding of SOAP or RESTful API calls.
  • Experience creating and executing software application test routines.
You’ll Be Successful Here If You Are
  • Curious. You enjoy learning new technologies and expanding your technical capabilities.
  • A Problem Solver. You like diagnosing issues, identifying root causes, and finding practical solutions.
  • Adaptable. You are comfortable moving between development projects, technical support, systems administration, and other IT priorities.
  • A Strong Communicator. You can explain technology clearly and professionally to employees who may not have a technical background.
  • Detail-Oriented. You understand that accuracy, documentation, security, and attention to detail matter in IT.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

The Junior Developer role provides exposure to multiple areas of information technology rather than limiting you to a single technical discipline. You’ll have the opportunity to strengthen your development skills while gaining practical experience with databases, infrastructure, end-user support, testing, cybersecurity, and technology implementation.

If you're looking to build a well-rounded foundation in technology, this is a chance to learn, contribute, solve problems, and grow as part of the QuantumFlo team.
