What does a JavaScript developer do?

As a JavaScript developer, your main responsibilities are to code functional web applications using the JavaScript (JS) programming language and to patch and update application code as needed to optimize functionality. You program front-end code for web applications, collaborate with back-end developers, and use tools like integrated development environments (IDEs), Git, and browser dev tools.

What does a JavaScript developer do?

A JavaScript Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using the JavaScript programming language. They typically work on both the front-end (user interface) and sometimes the back-end (server-side) of web projects, creating interactive features, optimizing performance, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and other developers to deliver a seamless user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a JavaScript developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a JavaScript Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a solid understanding of web development principles, often backed by a degree in computer science or comparable experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems like Git, and build tools such as Webpack is typically required. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating on projects and resolving technical challenges. These skills and qualities ensure the delivery of robust, maintainable, and efficient web applications that meet user and business needs.

What are some common challenges faced by JavaScript developers when working on large-scale applications?

JavaScript Developers working on large-scale applications often encounter challenges such as maintaining code readability, managing dependencies, and ensuring performance optimization. As projects grow, it becomes essential to implement best practices like modularization, code reviews, and thorough testing to prevent bugs and technical debt. Collaboration with backend developers, designers, and QA testers is frequent, requiring clear communication and an agile mindset to deliver features efficiently and address issues as they arise.

What is the difference between Javascript Developer vs Front-End Developer?

Job Title: Senior Specialist, Software Engineer

Job Code: 42480

Job Location: Palm Bay, Florida

Job Schedule: 9/80 - Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Specialist, Software Engineer who wants to stay hands-on building the software behind missions that matter. You will work on a wide range of projects, from modern full-stack web applications using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Docker, and Linux to embedded software integrated with unique hardware. Most assignments will focus on one of these two areas, depending on mission needs, while delivering dependable command-and-control capabilities that support customers and real-world assets. This is an individual-contributor role with opportunities to provide technical leadership, not a people-management position, and a chance to be part of something bigger than any single product.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, develop, integrate, and sustain high-reliability command-and-control software supporting customer missions and real-world assets.
  • Build full-stack web applications using React, TypeScript, and JavaScript for responsive user experiences and Python services and APIs for backend capabilities.
  • Develop and deploy containerized software using Docker, applying object-oriented design to create clean, maintainable, and testable code.
  • Integrate software with unique hardware platforms and troubleshoot the interfaces, data flows, and runtime behavior that connect the two.
  • Configure and troubleshoot basic Linux development, deployment, and runtime environments in support of software delivery and sustainment.
  • Work directly with customers, systems engineers, and mission users to turn operational needs into practical technical solutions; contribute technical leadership through strong engineering judgment, design reviews, and peer collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance is required.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Hands-on full-stack web development experience.
  • React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python.
  • Docker and object-oriented programming.
  • Software-hardware integration.
  • Basic Linux configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Git, debugging, automated testing, and secure development practices.
  • Relevant technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Current CI Polygraph.
  • Custom hardware, edge-device, or control-system integration.
  • Command-and-control, mission, or real-time software.
  • Secure containerized web services and connected hardware.
