The Solution Architect – Role Description & Requirements

In an increasingly connected world, massive amounts of structured and unstructured data open up endless opportunities. At Advana, our engineers ingest data in the platform, unlock secrets, explore new possibilities presented by the IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence advances. They turn complex data sets into valuable information to solve global challenges across private and public sectors — from fraud detection to cancer research to national intelligence — they know, the answers are in the data.

The Solution Architect helps onboard new use cases and design scalable solutions to meet user requirements. Evaluates software and hardware solutions available in the market, compares them with the existing platform baseline. The Solution Architect works closely with Product and Platform Owners to distill requirements. Ensures the platform is able to support the functional and operational requirements of such use cases. Rolls out new capabilities as needed by the platform.

What we’re looking for:
  • Solid background in Big Data infrastructure, Cloud Infrastructure and Software Management.
  • Deep experience with Data Engineering Frameworks and Pipelines
  • Independent, creative, welcomes challenges and delivers
  • Curious mind, passionate about solving problems quickly and bringing innovative ideas to the table
Basic Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience with Data Engineering, Data Science, Data Analytics, Solution Architecture, Data Architecture
  • 3+ years of experience with Big Data systems, including Hadoop, Spark
  • 3+ years of experience with Python, Java, Shell Scripting, SQL or R
  • Experience with briefing senior leadership
  • Experience with DoD networks and infrastructure
  • Experience with working in a complex environment and managing competing priorities
  • Experience with working with product leaders to align and manage application and system roadmaps with mission needs
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Ability to work onsite in the Crystal City/Alexandria, VA region 2-3 days per week
  • BS degree
Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience developing data pipelines using Apache Spark, Databricks
  • Experience with SQL query engines – Databricks, Snowflake and Redshift
  • Experience with Big Data processing frameworks such as EMR, Athena and Big Query
  • Experience developing architecture options for existing and new technologies
  • Experience developing target architecture and road maps
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Top Secret Clearance or higher
