Position Title: Java Developer
Location: Hybrid (2–3 days per week) / Onsite (Sprezzatura HQ Arlington, VA)

POSITION SUMMARY


We are seeking a Java Developer to support the sustainment, enhancement, and modernization of mission-critical applications supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The successful candidate will contribute across both legacy enterprise platforms and modern application architectures, helping to bridge existing systems with future-state modernization initiatives.

The primary focus of this role is enterprise Java application development utilizing legacy technologies while contributing to modernization efforts leveraging Spring Boot, microservices, and API-driven architectures.

RESPONSIBILITIES


• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
• Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
• Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
• Design and implement REST and SOAP-based services and integrations
• Develop and maintain modern backend services utilizing Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
• Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-quality software solutions


QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3–7 years of software development experience
• Strong experience with Java development
• Experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
• Experience developing REST APIs and web services
• Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases
• Experience using Git-based source control
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with WebLogic application server administration or deployment
• Experience with Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, or other enterprise Java technologies
• Experience with microservices architectures
• Experience with Docker and containerized applications
• Experience with React, JavaScript, or TypeScript
• Experience supporting federal government or VA programs
• Experience with Jira and Confluence


WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting.


PAY RANGE


The base salary range for this position is $105,000 to $125,000 annually, depending on geographic work location, relevant experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements. Geographic salary ranges are determined in accordance with the company's compensation practices and represent a good-faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting.
