Senior Java Software Engineer

Location: Remote (U.S.) / Travel to MD for Client/Internal Meetings few times a year
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $120,000-$140,000 annually, commensurate with experience (Negotiable to an Extent - possibility of 1099)

Position Overview

Global Alliant, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Software Engineer to support a mission-critical application modernization initiative for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This role involves designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining secure, scalable enterprise applications using modern cloud-native technologies while collaborating within an Agile software development environment.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience developing enterprise Java applications, strong knowledge of cloud technologies, and a passion for delivering high-quality software that supports critical government operations.


Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience with a focus on enterprise application development.
Strong expertise in Java development with experience using Kotlin and exposure to Scala.
Extensive experience developing Java-based web services and RESTful APIs.
Experience working with Docker and containerized application development.
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, functional programming concepts, and software design patterns.
Working knowledge of the Scala ecosystem, including commonly used frameworks and libraries.
Strong SQL development skills with experience designing and querying relational databases.
Experience developing applications within AWS cloud environments.
Proficiency using Git or similar version control systems.
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

Collaborate with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, testers, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality and engineering best practices.
Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability.
Support containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines.
Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions.
