Salary:

Job Summary: Under close supervision and specific direction, this position is responsible for assisting with the evaluation, engineering and design of Nemonts voice, data, transport or special access circuit networks. This position requires a basic knowledge of telecommunications networks.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand general engineering of transport and switching infrastructures. Basic understanding of LAN, WAN, VLAN and VPN operations.
  • General understanding of transport, switching and data networks
  • Understanding of network design principles.
  • General knowledge of various network protocols and systems such as TCP/IP, SIP, SONET, Ethernet, ATM and VoIP.
  • Understanding of general troubleshooting principles.
  • Ability to identify and analyzes problems associated with Ethernet, TCP/IP, ATM, and other LAN/WAN systems.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend appropriate network tools, software and documentation to assure quality maintenance, monitoring and network administration of local and wide area networks.
  • Monitor and coordinate contract installations and assist in performing acceptance testing.
  • Coordinate and conduct traffic studies. Analyze traffic data and perform forecasting, trending, and capacity projections.
  • Assist in managing capital and operating expenses. Provide input to the preparation of capital and expense budgets.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Associates degree or a combination of equivalent certifications and 1-2 years work experience in Engineering, Computer Science or other closely related disciplines
  • TCP/IP Networks, SIP trunking, VPN, VLAN, etc.
  • Cisco Routers/Switches and firewalls
  • Fiber, and copper transport systems
  • Basic Computer Skills

Physical Demands

  • Sits at desk most of working day.
  • Stands and walks short distances in office.
  • Walking up to one mile in rough terrain
  • Handles books, papers, and office equipment.
  • May be required to lift and carry weights up to 25 pounds.
