Job description

We are seeking an analytical, quality-focused, and collaborative Mid-level Software Development Engineer in Test to join our engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with professional experience in software development and test automation who is passionate about building reliable, scalable, and maintainable quality engineering solutions. You will work closely with software engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to improve test coverage, identify risks early, and support the delivery of high-quality software.

Software Development Engineer in Test – Role Overview

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites across web, API, and service-based applications. You will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from test planning and risk assessment through to execution, defect analysis, and release validation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust automated test frameworks and test suites using suitable programming languages, tools, and testing patterns.

  • Create and execute automated and exploratory tests for functional, integration, regression, system, API, 508 and end-to-end testing.

  • Develop and maintain mobile test automation for native, hybrid, or mobile web applications using tools such as Appium or equivalent technologies.

  • Work with developers, product managers, and delivery teams to understand requirements, identify acceptance criteria, and define effective test strategies.

  • Analyse user stories, technical designs, and product risks to identify test scenarios, edge cases, and potential failure modes.

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and provide timely, reliable feedback on build and release quality.

  • Investigate test failures, reproduce defects, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with engineering teams to drive issues through to resolution.

  • Maintain clear test documentation, automation standards, defect records, and quality metrics.

  • Review code and test automation contributions, promoting maintainability, reusability, readability, and good software engineering practice.

  • Contribute to improvements in test processes, tooling, environments, test data management, and quality engineering practices.

  • Support non-functional testing activities, including performance, reliability, compatibility, and security testing where appropriate.

  • Communicate testing progress, risks, results, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Professional experience in software testing, test automation, quality engineering, software development, or a related role.

  • Strong programming experience in at least one language such as Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and reusable code.

  • Practical experience developing and maintaining automated tests for web applications, APIs, microservices, or other software systems.

  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, REST Assured, pytest, JUnit, NUnit, or equivalent.

  • Good understanding of software testing principles, including test design techniques, risk-based testing, regression testing, integration testing, and defect lifecycle management.

  • Experience working with version control systems, preferably Git, and contributing to collaborative development workflows such as pull requests and code reviews.

  • Experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD tools and pipelines, such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.

  • Familiarity with API testing, HTTP, JSON, SQL, databases, and tools for inspecting and validating service responses.

  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, and experience working within cross-functional delivery teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex failures and communicate technical findings clearly.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive, collaborative, and quality-focused approach to delivery.

Desirable Skills and Experience
