Senior Software Engineer - Java/Spring Boot
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in Java 8, Spring Boot, and SQL to build and enhance enterprise financial applications. The ideal candidate will have experience developing scalable backend solutions, optimizing transaction processing workflows, and delivering secure, high-performance systems in a collaborative environment.

In this role, you will:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java 8, Spring Boot, and SQL.
  • Build secure APIs and integrations to support critical business processes and financial transactions.
  • Optimize application performance, database queries, and transaction workflows.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, QA teams, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Apply secure coding practices and ensure compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Create technical documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What you need to have to be considered:
  • 8+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java 8, Spring Boot, and SQL.
  • Experience designing and developing enterprise-scale applications and microservices.
  • Strong understanding of database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience building and supporting secure, high-volume transaction processing systems.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns, testing methodologies, and Agile development practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience working in financial services or transaction processing environments is highly preferred.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with check processing, clearing, reconciliation, or payment systems.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience working in hybrid and distributed team environments.
Preferred Certifications
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Java Programmer
  • Spring Professional Certification
Salary and Other Compensation
The annual salary for this position is between $112,000 - $131,500, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
