The Opportunity

This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

What You’ll Work On
  • Support project development by learning how system components interact and applying that understanding to implement well‑defined tasks.
  • Manage your own work effectively, organizing assignments, balancing priorities, and identifying what is urgent versus important.
  • Work with relational databases by exploring schema structures, understanding data flows, writing simple SQL queries, and helping troubleshoot data‑related issues under guidance.
  • Analyze system behavior and contribute to evaluating alternative implementation options, using data‑driven reasoning to support team decision‑making.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, providing updates on progress, challenges, and findings to peers and project leads.
  • Participate in design discussions, brainstorming sessions, and problem‑solving activities that improve tools, workflows, and engineering solutions.
  • Follow engineering processes, company policies, and regulatory guidelines, contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Assist with tasks across one or more projects, receiving mentorship and technical support from senior engineers.
  • Learn and apply core software engineering practices, including version control, debugging, testing, and coding best practices, while contributing to team deliverables.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Up to 1 year or more of relevant experience through internships, co‑ops, academic projects, research, or capstone work involving software development or data‑focused engineering.
  • Familiarity with relational database concepts and writing simple SQL queries (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages (such as Python, Java, C++, or similar).
  • Exposure to modern software development practices, including version control (e.g., Git/GitHub) and basic debugging or testing techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Able to learn concepts and apply that understanding to help troubleshoot issues and complete assigned project tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

The base pay for this position is $73,900.00 – $116,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
