Job description

We are looking for a talented Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale systems that power Amazon Lists. You'll work on high-traffic services and customer-facing experiences, solving complex problems in distributed systems, frontend modernization, and data-driven personalization - all while directly impacting the shopping experience for hundreds of millions of customers worldwide.
Key job responsibilities
  1. Design & Build: Architect and implement scalable backend services and customer-facing features across the Lists platform
  2. Frontend Development: Develop responsive, performant UI experiences using modern frameworks (React) to delight customers
  3. System Ownership: Own services end-to-end - from design through deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence
  4. Technical Excellence: Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code; participate in design and code reviews; raise the quality bar for the team
  5. Operational Health: Participate in on-call rotations, drive root-cause analysis, and build automated monitoring and alerting
  6. Collaboration: Partner with product managers, designers, and peer engineers to define technical solutions that meet customer needs
  7. Mentorship: Guide junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and best practices

About the team
Amazon Lists helps hundreds of millions of customers organize and share the things they love - from wish lists and gift registries to idea boards and collections. We're entering a new chapter, applying state of the art AI to re-imagine how customers curate, discover, and connect through lists.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
