What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Java Programmer Contract position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Java Programmer Contract, you need strong proficiency in Java programming, object-oriented design, and experience with frameworks like Spring and Hibernate, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, build tools like Maven or Gradle, and optionally certification like Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Java SE is valuable. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and clear communication skills help you excel in remote or cross-functional contract environments. These capabilities ensure efficient project delivery, seamless collaboration, and high-quality software solutions within a contractual timeframe.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Java Programmers?

Contract Java Programmers often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new codebases, understanding existing project architectures, and integrating with teams that may have long-established workflows. Because contract roles usually have tight deadlines, the ability to rapidly produce high-quality code and communicate progress is essential. It’s also common to juggle multiple priorities or projects simultaneously, making organization and self-motivation key. By proactively seeking clarity and collaborating effectively, contract Java programmers can quickly overcome these hurdles and deliver successful results.

What is a Java Programmer Contract job?

A Java Programmer Contract job is a temporary position where a programmer is hired for a specific duration to develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications. Contract roles can vary in length, from a few months to a year or more, depending on project requirements. Contractors typically work for a company or client without being a full-time employee, often through an agency or as independent consultants. These roles may offer flexibility and higher pay rates compared to permanent positions but usually do not include employee benefits.

Is Java outdated in 2026?

Java remains a widely used programming language for Java Programmers in 2026, with ongoing updates and a large ecosystem supporting enterprise applications, Android development, and backend systems. Its stability, performance, and extensive libraries ensure its continued relevance in the software industry.

How much do Java programmers make?

Java programmers' salaries vary based on experience, location, and industry, but in general, they earn a median annual salary ranging from $70,000 to $120,000. Senior developers with specialized skills in frameworks like Spring or tools such as Git can earn higher compensation, especially in competitive markets or with contract roles that often pay higher hourly rates.

Are Java programmers still in demand?

Java programmers remain in demand due to the language's widespread use in enterprise applications, Android development, and backend systems. Skills in frameworks like Spring and knowledge of cloud environments can enhance job prospects in this field.

Will AI replace Java devs?

AI is unlikely to fully replace Java programmers, as the role requires complex problem-solving, system design, and understanding of business needs that AI cannot fully replicate. Instead, AI tools can assist Java developers by automating repetitive tasks and improving productivity, making their skills more valuable. Staying updated with new frameworks and AI integration can enhance job security in this field.

Job description

Company Overview XPECT Solutions, LLC has built a strong reputation by supporting our clients in meeting their strategic goals and mission objectives. We provide high quality resources for a wide range of IT and security solutions at best-value pricing. Our success is built on a solid foundation of well-vetted, highly technical personnel, a disciplined project management approach, and an overarching commitment to customer service. We develop, test, deploy, and support exceptional solutions that enhance system functionality, while maximizing reliability and availability, and ensure the tightest security. Job Overview XPECT Solutions is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support our Federal Government Customer with delivering secure, cloud-based mission systems. The Engineer will own the end-to-end technical design across full-stack applications, microservices, and AWS infrastructure, setting architectural direction and guiding a team of engineers through delivery. This role spans front-end (React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS), back-end (Java, Spring Boot, Python, Apache Camel, GraphQL), data, and cloud layers - translating mission requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions that meet federal compliance requirements (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, DHS 4300A). The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can move fluidly between whiteboard design, code review, and stakeholder briefings, and who has a track record of leading architecture for complex distributed systems in regulated environments. As a Hybrid position, there is an onsite requirement of one day per week. Core Responsibilities * Lead the end-to-end architecture for secure, cloud-based mission applications, spanning front-end, back-end, microservices, data, and AWS infrastructure layers. * Define and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, API contracts, and architectural decision records (ADRs) that guide the engineering team and ensure consistency across the program. * Architect microservices-based solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Camel, with well-defined integration patterns over REST, GraphQL, XML, and JSON. * Direct front-end architecture using React, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, establishing component standards, state-management patterns, and accessibility/Section 508 compliance. * Design database schemas and data engineering solutions across multiple platforms (relational and NoSQL), including data modeling, performance tuning, and migration strategy. * Architect AWS deployments using EC2, ECS, EBS, RDS Postgres, ALBs, Lambda, S3, and Amazon MQ - defining networking, scaling, resilience, and cost-optimization strategies. * Provide hands-on technical leadership: review code and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), conduct design reviews, and resolve cross-team architectural issues. * Establish CI/CD and DevSecOps standards in partnership with platform teams, leveraging Git, Jenkins, Terraform, and Vault to automate secure build, deploy, and release workflows. * Embed security and compliance controls (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, DHS 4300A) into all architectural designs, supporting ATO activities and POA&M remediation. * Mentor and develop senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, code quality, and continuous improvement. * Engage directly with government stakeholders to present architectural decisions, trade-off analyses, and roadmap recommendations, translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences. * Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct proofs-of-concept, and recommend strategic investments aligned to long-term mission needs. Requirements * Must be able to pass a full background check and obtain a Public Trust 6C * Eight (8) years of Information Assurance experience * Experience with the following technologies: * Database Design and Data Engineering in multiple platforms * Java * Springboot * Python * MicroServices * XML * JSON * Camel * GraphQL * Javascript * React * HTML, CSS * RHEL * AWS (EC2, EBS, ECS, RDS Postrgres, ALBs, Lamda, S3, Amazon MQ) * Git * Jenkins * Terraform * Vault Preferred Additional Skills and Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. Benefits Xpect Solutions, LLC is a one-of-a-kind employer with a talented team that is cleared at various levels and is certified in dozens of industry-recognized certifications. Our talented staff are the key to our success. They bring the knowledge, experience and technical skills to deliver the best solutions to our customers. We support our team by providing open communication, win-win partnerships with clients and vendors, a team-oriented culture, and a focus on professional development and growth for a long-lasting and happy career. We offer a benefits package that is designed to keep our most important assets - our employees - healthy, happy, energized and moving forward. Our philosophy is simple - empower our employees with the benefits, resources and the financial incentives they need to be successful.
