Job Summary
The Memory and Imagination Lab is seeking a part-time research assistant to join a team investigating emotional memory in healthy and trauma-exposed adults. The position will involve technical skills of some complexity, such as assisting in the preparation of documents and files or data management and cleaning protocols. In-person presence on UBC campus required, with some occasional remote work.
Organizational Status
The research assistant will report to the principal investigator and is directly supervised by research coordinators and graduate students.
Work Performed

Aid in the preparation of correspondence, documents, and reports, including ethics submissions to UBC BREB.

Help to maintain and file forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs.

Assist with the screening and recruiting study participants, including participants with exposure to trauma.

Maintain equipment and supplies.

Assist in data collection and cleaning, including pupilometry, psychophysiological, and behavioural data.

Assist in scoring memories using a standardized protocol (i.e., the Autobiographical Interview).

Handle specialized equipment including wearables during data collection.

Help to manage multi-modal databases.

Help to maintain multi-site data sharing arrangements.

Assist with post-study activities, as needed.

Apply formulas and calculations to research data using basic statistical programs. Review and verify accuracy of database information and assist in making necessary corrections according to specific guidelines.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Work performed will be outlined in clear procedures and closely monitored by research coordinators and graduate students; however, some individual initiative is required. Errors may result in loss of data, participants or reputation, and the slowing down of productivity in the laboratory, or ethics approval being delayed.
Supervision Received
Direct supervision by the research coordinator or graduate student who provides instruction and guidance with general supervision from the principal investigator.
Supervision Given
May provide guidance to volunteer research assistants with less experience.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic understanding of research design and analysis.

Fundamental statistical knowledge about how to analyze data.

Strong interpersonal skills for working with human study participants and the research team.

Ability and motivation to complete tasks efficiently and independently.

Familiarity with statistical programs and computer languages, including R, Python, Java and/or Linux.

Familiarity with wearable technologies, eye-tracking, and/or BioPac systems.

Experience with autobiographical interview administration and scoring.

Skill in recruitment and testing of participants, including clinical populations.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
