What is a Java full stack software engineer?

A Java Full Stack Software Engineer is a developer who is proficient in both front-end and back-end technologies, with a strong focus on Java for server-side programming. They are capable of designing, developing, and maintaining applications that involve user interfaces, server logic, databases, and sometimes even deployment. These engineers typically work with frameworks like Spring Boot for the backend and technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular or React for the frontend. Their expertise allows them to handle end-to-end development tasks, making them valuable assets for building comprehensive web applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java full stack software engineer?

To thrive as a Java Full Stack Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in Java, front-end frameworks (such as React or Angular), and a solid understanding of software development principles, usually supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with tools like Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, version control systems (e.g., Git), and databases (SQL/NoSQL) is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, collaboration, and effective communication set standout engineers apart in team environments. These competencies ensure the delivery of scalable, maintainable, and user-centric applications in dynamic development settings.

What are some common challenges faced by Java full stack software engineers when integrating front-end and back-end components?

Java Full Stack Software Engineers often encounter challenges in ensuring seamless communication between the front-end and back-end, such as managing data consistency, handling API versioning, and synchronizing release cycles between teams. Debugging issues that span both the client and server sides can also be complex, requiring strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with multiple frameworks. Collaborating effectively with UI/UX designers and DevOps teams is essential to address these challenges and deliver robust, user-friendly applications.

What is the difference between Java Full Stack Software Engineer vs Java Backend Developer?

Job description

Zof AI is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to build and ship whole features across our control plane for software quality. This role spans the Next.js, React, and TypeScript surfaces where customers review agent findings and the Node and Postgres services that store runs, evidence, and validated fixes. If you have worked as a Software Engineer, Product Engineer, Web Developer, or Application Developer, this is that discipline at Zof AI. The ideal candidate has shipped real features to real users, moves fast without leaving quality behind, and already builds alongside AI coding agents every day.

Engineering ยท Mid-level ยท Full-time ยท On-site ยท San Francisco, CA

Responsibilities
  • Build and ship whole features end to end, from interface to database.
  • Develop the React and Next.js surfaces where customers review agent runs, evidence, and proposed fixes.
  • Design Node services and Postgres data models that keep run history and evidence trustworthy.
  • Own features through design, review, release, and the follow-up after they land.
  • Write tests and instrumentation so regressions surface in our own product before customers hit them.
  • Partner with design and product to turn rough direction into working software.
  • Use AI coding agents daily to raise throughput without lowering quality.
  • Improve performance, accessibility, and reliability across the stack.
Requirements
  • Experience building and shipping web applications in production.
  • Working fluency with JavaScript or TypeScript, React, and Node.
  • Comfort writing SQL and reasoning about relational data models.
  • Ability to work across the stack rather than a single layer.
  • Willingness to use AI coding tools as a daily part of the job.
  • Strong ownership and follow-through on the work you pick up.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment.
Nice to have
  • Experience with Next.js, Prisma, Postgres, or similar technologies.
  • Experience using Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar AI coding tools.
  • Experience with test automation, CI pipelines, or developer tooling.
  • Portfolio, GitHub projects, or open-source contributions.

Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools in your normal development workflow is required
