Their responsibilities include developing new features, integrating payment gateways, ensuring website security, and optimizing performance to provide a seamless shopping experience for users. Java Ecommerce Developers often collaborate with designers, marketers, and other developers to deliver robust, scalable ecommerce solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java ecommerce developer?

To thrive as a Java Ecommerce Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java programming, web development frameworks (like Spring), and experience with ecommerce platforms, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Job description

About SimpliSafe

We're a high-tech home security company that's passionate about protecting the life you've built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we've created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you're building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don't just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.
We're embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday - working together in person and choosing where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

Why are we hiring?

Well, we're growing and thriving. So, we need smart, talented, and humble people who share our values to join us as we disrupt the home security space and relentlessly pursue our mission of keeping Every Home Secure.

What You'll Do

You'll be the design leader for SimpliSafe's Ecommerce team, leading a small team of product designers and researchers who shape the end-to-end simplisafe.com experience. You'll set a clear vision for where our digital experience needs to go and rally cross-functional partners across Growth, Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Brand to help realize it.

As we overhaul our CMS and front-end, you'll be the leader who makes sure we do it right: establishing the design system, process, and governance that let the team move fast without creating inconsistency and technical debt. You'll also be our champion for AI in the design workflow - identifying where AI tools can speed up ideation, prototyping, and production, and building the practices that let the team adopt them well.

You'll be a hands-on leader who raises the bar on craft, keeps the team grounded in user research and business outcomes, and partners closely with engineering so design and code stay in lockstep.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vision & strategy: Define and champion a compelling vision for the future of the simplisafe.com experience; partner with Growth, Product, Engineering, and Analytics leaders to translate that vision into a roadmap and influence broader product strategy.
  • Design systems & governance: Own design system strategy for Ecommerce - establish the process, governance, and structure (component standards, documentation, design-to-code handoff) needed to fully capitalize on the CMS and front-end overhaul.
  • AI adoption in the design workflow: Identify, pilot, and scale AI tools and workflows across design and research (ideation, prototyping, content generation, research, synthesis, testing) to increase team velocity and quality; set guidelines and training for responsible, effective adoption.
  • Team leadership & craft: Build, coach, and grow a team of product designers and researchers; increase velocity of design output while raising the bar on craft; cultivate a collaborative, healthy team culture.
  • Cross-functional partnership: Partner closely with Growth, Product, Engineering, and Analytics to shape product strategy and improve day-to-day ways of working between design and development.
  • Research & experimentation: Keep the team grounded in user research and a conversion-focused, experimentation-driven mindset; ensure design decisions are informed by data and validated against measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Brand alignment: Align closely with Brand and other internal design teams to ensure visual and experiential consistency across channels.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of digital product design experience, ideally with significant experience in D2C/ecommerce at a company where the majority of revenue came through the website.
  • 5+ years leading and growing in-house product design and research teams, including experience managing managers or senior individual contributors.
  • Proven experience building, scaling, or governing a design system, and establishing the process/tooling that connects design and front-end development - experience partnering through a CMS or front-end replatforming is a strong plus.
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into a design workflow (e.g., AI-assisted prototyping, content generation, research synthesis) and helping a team adopt new tools and ways of working.
  • Track record of setting a design vision and influencing product strategy at the leadership level, not just executing against a roadmap.
  • Track record of producing data-informed, effective UX that delivers measurable outcomes for the customer and the business, in an experimentation-centered environment.
  • Track record of attracting, retaining, and up-leveling high-performing design teams.
  • Highly skilled in Figma; fluent with modern design and prototyping tools, including AI-assisted design tools.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • A portfolio showcasing end-to-end design leadership - vision-setting, org-building, and measurable business outcomes across research, UX, visual, and interaction design.

What Values You'll Share

  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
  • Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.
  • No Ego - Maintaining a "no job too small" attitude, and an open, inclusive and humble style.
  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
  • Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.

What We Offer

  • A mission- and values-driven culture and a safe, inclusive environment where you can build, grow and thrive
  • A comprehensive total rewards package that supports your wellness and provides security for SimpliSafers and their families (For more information on our total rewards please click here)
  • Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home.
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that bring people together, give opportunities to network, mentor and develop, and advocate for change.
