What is a Java developer?

Java Developers are professionals who specialize in designing, developing, and maintaining applications using the Java programming language. They work on server-side applications, web services, and software solutions for various industries, leveraging Java's platform independence and robustness. Java Developers are responsible for writing efficient code, debugging programs, collaborating with other team members, and ensuring the performance and security of Java applications. They often use frameworks like Spring and Hibernate to streamline development and may also be involved in testing and deployment processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Java developer?

To thrive as a Java Developer, you need a solid understanding of core Java programming, object-oriented design, and commonly used frameworks such as Spring or Hibernate, typically supported by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, build tools such as Maven or Gradle, and knowledge of databases are essential, and certifications like Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication abilities help you excel in collaborative development environments. These skills ensure the delivery of robust, maintainable code and successful project outcomes in dynamic software development settings.

What are some common challenges Java developers face when working on large-scale enterprise applications?

Java Developers working on large-scale enterprise applications often encounter challenges such as managing complex codebases, ensuring high performance under heavy loads, and maintaining consistent code quality across teams. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—like QA, DevOps, and front-end developers—is essential to address integration and deployment issues. Staying updated with evolving frameworks and best practices can also be demanding but is crucial for long-term project success and career growth.

Are Java developers still in demand?

Java developers remain in high demand due to the language's widespread use in enterprise applications, Android development, and backend systems. Skills in frameworks like Spring and knowledge of cloud environments can enhance job prospects in this field.

How much do Java developers make?

Java developers' salaries vary based on experience, location, and skill level, but they typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually in many regions. Senior Java developers with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher salaries, especially when working with frameworks like Spring or tools like Docker and Kubernetes.

Job description

Lead Java Developer

Onsite [5 Days/ week]

Alpharetta, GA

6+ months

Must have a LinkedIn. Strong Banking/Payments domain experience is required, particularly experience with payment processing, card-based applications, transaction processing, merchant services, or digital banking platforms.

This is a hands-on Java Lead role — candidates must be actively coding and developing, not purely managing or functioning as a non-coding architect.

We are looking for a Senior Java Lead / Hands-on Java Developer with strong experience in Java/J2EE application development, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and enterprise application architecture. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership while remaining highly hands-on with coding, development, troubleshooting, and delivery.

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of strong hands-on Java/J2EE development experience, with proven technical leadership.
  • Strong expertise in Java 8/11/17+, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Microservices.
  • Hands-on experience building REST APIs and scalable enterprise applications.
  • Strong knowledge of OOP, Design Patterns, SOLID principles, and system design.
  • Strong experience with SQL/Oracle and relational databases.
  • Experience with Git, JUnit/Mockito, CI/CD, and Agile/Scrum.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform, Docker/Kubernetes, and Kafka is highly preferred.
  • Must be hands-on with coding, debugging, code reviews, and production issue resolution while providing technical leadership.
  • Experience with Angular/React or other modern frontend technologies is a plus
  • Experience leading onsite/offshore development teams.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
  • Ability to lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise Java applications and services.
