Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Maryland Heights, MO that is seeking a Software Engineer (Backend/Java) for a hybrid role.
Summary:
We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team responsible for building and supporting mission-critical backend systems. This role focuses on developing scalable microservices and orchestration solutions that power complex business workflows, customer transactions, fraud and eligibility processes, and enterprise integrations.
The ideal candidate is a strong backend engineer with expertise in Java and Spring Boot, a passion for software craftsmanship, and an interest in leveraging AI tools to improve development efficiency and code quality.
Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications and microservices using Java and Spring Boot
* Build and support orchestration and workflow solutions that enable complex business processes and system integrations
* Develop APIs and services that support customer transactions, eligibility validation, fraud detection, credit evaluation, order management, scheduling, and reporting functions
* Publish and consume data across event-driven architectures and messaging platforms
* Collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
* Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices, standards, and design discussions
* Support CI/CD initiatives and contribute to platform engineering improvements
* Leverage AI-assisted development tools for coding, code reviews, testing, documentation, and productivity enhancements
* Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while ensuring system reliability and performance
* Stay current with emerging technologies, cloud services, and AI-driven engineering practices
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
* 5+ years of software development experience
* Experience utilizing AI tools within the software development lifecycle
* Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform)
* Strong understanding of software design patterns, scalability, performance, and application security
* Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Strong hands-on experience with:
* Java
