About the Role
22nd Century Technologies is seeking a highly technical and hands-on Java Technical Lead to support enterprise-scale federal initiatives and internal strategic technology programs. This role requires a strong engineering leader with deep Java expertise, architecture experience, and proven success delivering solutions within federal contracting environments.
The ideal candidate is a technically elite professional who can lead development teams, architect scalable systems, engage with stakeholders, and drive modernization efforts while remaining hands-on with coding and technical problem-solving.
This position is onsite at TSCTI Headquarters in McLean, Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade Java applications and distributed systems • Serve as the technical authority for architecture, coding standards, system integration, and application modernization initiatives • Provide hands-on development support across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) • Mentor and guide developers, conduct code reviews, and establish engineering best practices • Collaborate with program managers, federal stakeholders, architects, DevOps engineers, and cross-functional teams • Design and implement secure, scalable, high-performance microservices and APIs • Support cloud-native application development and modernization efforts • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive root-cause analysis • Ensure compliance with federal security, governance, and development standards • Participate in solution design discussions, proposal support, and technical strategy initiatives as needed ________________________________________
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field • 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong focus on Java technologies • 3+ years in a Technical Lead or Lead Architect role • Proven experience supporting federal government contracts or federal systems integrator environments • Deep expertise in: • Java 8/11/17+ • Spring Boot and Spring Framework • RESTful API development • Microservices architecture • Multithreading and performance optimization • SQL and NoSQL databases • Distributed systems and enterprise integration patterns • Strong experience with: • AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform • Docker and Kubernetes • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices • Git, Maven, Jenkins, SonarQube • Strong understanding of secure coding practices and enterprise application security • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills • Ability to work onsite in McLean, VA ________________________________________
