About the Role

Are you a people-focused engineering leader who loves building strong teams, developing talent, and creating the conditions for great work to happen? We're looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is energized by coaching engineers, optimizing how teams work together, and partnering with the business to deliver meaningful outcomes.

In this role, you'll lead a team of Software Engineers, supporting their growth while ensuring the team is aligned to business goals. As a leader, you'll work on removing obstacles, fostering collaboration, and helping your team do their best work while they grow.

This role is located in Calgary, Alberta, and the role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.

Responsibilities:

Team Management

  • Build and nurture high-performing development teams through effective hiring, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Allocate resources efficiently, balancing workloads and skillsets within the teams.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for team members, providing constructive feedback and setting development goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, to ensure a holistic approach to product development.
  • Motivate and inspire team members, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to employees, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Foster open communication within the team, encouraging the sharing of ideas and information.
  • Act as a servant leader for your team members, by removing obstacles, frictions and resolving conflicts.
  • Monitor the performance of individuals and teams and foster a high-performance mindset while providing constant feedback to individuals.
  • Collaborate with other managers and stakeholders to ensure resources are aligned with company goals

Agile Project Management

  • Champion and facilitate Agile methodologies, ensuring the team adheres to Agile practices and principles, such as transparency, adaptability, and collaboration.
  • Ensure the team adheres to the best software engineering processes and practices and it is always improving processes and tools.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, regularly assessing and optimizing development processes.
  • Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring teams remain focused, efficient, and productive.
  • Act as a bridge between the team and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication of priorities and expectations.
  • Track sprint progress, and deliverables to ensure projects stay on track and align with company goals.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of SaaS Product and microservices software development experience.
  • 10+ years of experience building a SaaS platform with event driven, API first, microservices enviornments.
  • Experience with GoLang is a plus. Candidates with strong foundations in C# or Java and experience building backend services are encouraged to apply.  
  • Proven track record of resolving conflicts, building team cohesion, and fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.
  • Extensive experience leading and mentoring Senior and Junior Software Engineers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a focus on outcomes.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate team members while fostering a growth-oriented environment.
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles, Scrum framework, and other Agile and Project Management methodologies.
  • Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
