Location: Pittsburgh, PA / Dallas, TX

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Developer with strong Apache Flink experience to join a banking and financial services technology team supporting PNC Bank. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Java, backend development, distributed systems, real-time data processing, and Apache Flink.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining highly scalable backend applications and real-time data processing solutions. Experience working in financial services, banking, or other highly regulated environments is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build high-performance, distributed, and fault-tolerant applications for enterprise banking systems.
  • Develop real-time and event-driven data processing pipelines using Apache Flink.
  • Work with streaming data and develop solutions for real-time processing, transformation, enrichment, and analytics.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Java and Spring technologies.
  • Develop applications using microservices and cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • Work with Apache Kafka and other messaging or event-streaming technologies for asynchronous data processing.
  • Optimize Flink jobs for performance, scalability, reliability, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Develop and maintain data ingestion and processing workflows handling high-volume transactional and streaming data.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in application design, technical discussions, code reviews, debugging, and production support.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, data-processing, performance, and integration issues.
  • Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and production-quality Java code.
  • Develop automated unit and integration tests and participate in end-to-end testing activities.
  • Follow secure coding, development standards, CI/CD practices, and enterprise engineering processes.
  • Monitor application health and investigate production issues using appropriate logging and monitoring tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of backend architecture, development processes, and engineering practices.

Required Technical Skills

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework
  • Strong hands-on experience with Apache Flink
  • Experience developing real-time data processing and streaming applications
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture
  • Experience building and consuming REST APIs
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and data structures
  • Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing frameworks

  • Experience in Banking / Financial Services
