Position Overview:
The Dean Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the school's culture, climate, and student behavior systems. This position works closely with the Dean of Students and administration to help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive school environment aligned to Rowe's core values of Pride, Success, and Honor.
The Dean Assistant supports daily discipline operations, supervises student interventions such as In-School Suspension and detention, assists with behavior documentation and communication, and helps ensure consistent implementation of schoolwide expectations and restorative practices. This role also includes clerical and operational support related to student discipline systems and may occasionally require stepping in to support Dean responsibilities in their absence.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Supervision & Behavioral Support
  • Supervise students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS), detention, reflection spaces, or other behavioral interventions.
  • Support students in reflecting on behavior choices and restoring learning readiness.
  • Reinforce school expectations, routines, and procedures consistently throughout the school day.
  • Assist with monitoring hallways, transitions, lunch periods, dismissal, arrival, and other high-traffic areas as assigned.
  • Help de-escalate student situations using restorative and relationship-based approaches.
  • Support implementation of schoolwide behavior systems and interventions.

Discipline Operations & Reporting
  • Assist the Dean with documenting behavioral incidents and taking student statements/reports.
  • Enter discipline referrals, incident reports, parent communication logs, and related documentation into the school's discipline software system.
  • Respond to staff requests and follow-up needs related to discipline systems and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate student discipline records and files in accordance with school expectations and confidentiality requirements.
  • Help prepare reports, organize data, and track behavior interventions as needed.

Family Communication & Clerical Support
  • Contact parents/guardians regarding student behavior incidents, detentions, conferences, and follow-up communication.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and coordinating communication between families, teachers, and administration.
  • Support clerical duties including filing paperwork, copying, organizing forms, and maintaining student records.
  • Assist with preparing behavior documentation and communication materials for administrative review.

Collaboration & School Culture
  • Collaborate closely with the Dean, teachers, support staff, counselors, and administration to support positive student outcomes.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school culture initiatives.
  • Support restorative practices and social-emotional learning initiatives throughout the school community.
  • Help build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.

Leadership Support
  • Assist with coverage and operational support during the Dean's absence.
  • Occasionally step in to support Dean responsibilities as directed by administration.
  • Support crisis response and student supervision when urgent situations arise.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, youth development, or behavioral support setting
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Commitment to supporting a positive school culture and student growth

Preferred:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field
  • Experience working in school discipline, restorative practices, youth mentoring, or behavior intervention
  • Experience using student information or discipline management systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Experience working in an urban, diverse, and inclusive school setting
