Job Posting

Operates a wide range of heavy equipment, vehicles, and hand tools to maintain, repair, and construct streets, drainage, and alley systems. May work alone or with a crew to accomplish assigned tasks.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Two years of experience in operating heavy motorized construction equipment such as track excavator, track loader, rubber tire loader, backhoe loader, etc.
  • Sufficient skills are necessary to operate heavy equipment effectively and safely
  • Sufficient understanding of and/or experience in pavement maintenance and construction
  • Basic knowledge of grading and excavation techniques
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment in the field or as directed
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other employees

Education and Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent plus two years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment; OR

Sufficient education to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations, plus five years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment; OR

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

A Valid Texas Class B CDL with a Tanker Endorsement is required upon hire until the ability to obtain and maintain a Texas Class A CDL with a Tanker Endorsement within 180 days of employment.

Must maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards:

Primarily in outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during the summer and winter months.

Tools and Equipment Used:

Uses various types of heavy and light equipment such as; track excavator, track loader, track type tractors, rubber tire loader, backhoe loader, steel wheel and pneumatic rollers, skid steer, dump trucks, and haul trucks for transporting equipment.

Uses hand saw, circular saw, chain saw, vibrator, bolt cutter, pick, axe, shovels, rakes, air compressor, jackhammer, cutting torch, various weight hammers, using proper safety precautions
