Position: Custodian & Building Maintenance Specialist (12-Month Position)

Salary: $40,000

Education: High School Diploma or GED required

Job Description

This role combines routine custodial duties with essential building upkeep, assembly, and general facility maintenance. Serving as a versatile, jack-of-all-trades team member, this employee performs cleaning, minor physical repairs, equipment setup, and ongoing campus upkeep. Working under the general direction of the Director of Business Services, this individual plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of our school grounds.

Essential Job Functions

The duties listed below are representative examples of the work performed. This is not an exhaustive list, and additional related duties may be assigned.

Facilities, General Maintenance & Upkeep

  • Perform minor building repairs and touch-ups (e.g., drywall patching, basic hardware fixes, minor carpentry, and fixture adjustments).
  • Handle indoor and outdoor painting, staining, and surface prep to keep facility spaces looking fresh, modern, and well-maintained.
  • Assemble, adjust, move, and repair furniture, shelving, fixtures, and classroom furniture.
  • Perform routine building inspections to ensure safety, structural integrity, and facility security.

Custodial & Grounds Operations

  • Maintain total building cleanliness through sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Perform basic groundskeeping and lawn/landscaping maintenance.
  • Support seasonal snow and ice removal to ensure safe, clear campus access.

Events & Operational Logistics

  • Coordinate facility setup, teardown, and physical logistics for school events, meetings, and activities.
  • Establish and maintain organized supply files and maintenance logs.
  • Support student supervision during activities or transitions as needed.
  • Carry out special instructions and tasks aligned with Glenwood Academy's mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in custodial work, facilities upkeep, or general building maintenance.
  • Technical & Mechanical Aptitude: Proven ability to use basic hand/power tools, assemble furniture and equipment, execute light repairs, and complete painting projects independently.
  • Physical Capacity: Ability to pick up and carry a minimum of 65 lbs, with the physical stamina for extensive walking, standing, stooping, pushing, climbing, bending, and lifting throughout the day.
  • Communication & Technology: Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral), follow directives, and utilize basic Glenwood Academy software/hardware to process digital work orders.
  • Professionalism: Strong human relations skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, and willingness to carry out school policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility: Availability to respond to emergency facility calls as needed.
