POSITION: Dentist
SALARY: $96.06 to $124.88, per hour - DOE
REPORTS TO: Dental Director
LOCATION: Nespelem Health Center, Nespelem, WA
Basic Functions: This is an Exempt position. The Dentist provides comprehensive oral health services to patients served by the Colville Tribes Health Care Authority under the Tribe's P.L. 93-638 self-governance authority. This position is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth, gums, and related oral structures. The Dentist promotes whole-person wellness through culturally grounded care, health education, and preventive outreach. This role supports the mission of strengthening community health and honoring Colville traditions while ensuring clinical excellence and compliance with professional standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
  • Requires a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Requires completion of a residency program or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
  • Requires current, unrestricted dental license in any U.S. state, territory, or tribal jurisdiction.
  • Requires DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances (if applicable).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) preferred.
  • Prior experience in community health, IHS, or tribal health settings strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires broad knowledge of general dentistry, including preventive, restorative, surgical, pediatric, and prosthodontic care.
  • Requires knowledge of oral disease prevention, patient counseling, and public health strategies.
  • Requires familiarity with tribal health systems, Indian Health Service standards, and cultural dimensions of health care delivery.
  • Requires proficiency in dental software and electronic health records.
  • Requires ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of dental conditions effectively.
  • Ability to provide patient-centered, culturally competent care with sensitivity to tribal traditions and community values.
  • Ability communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues in both clinical and community settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care model.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing dental procedures.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient for precision dental work.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations and manage patient safety.

Working Conditions:
  • Work performed in clinic and community settings within the Colville Reservation.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, dental materials, and instruments requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
  • May involve travel for community outreach, school programs, or continuing education.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
