Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical Oncology / Hematology Oncology
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Day Shift (07:00–19:30) / Night Shift (19:00–07:30)
Schedule Type: 3x12-hour shifts
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Medical Surgical Oncology Registered Nurse responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient nursing care to adult and geriatric oncology and hematology patients at James Cancer Hospital and Research (Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center). The RN will care for patients with complex hematology and oncology diagnoses including lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, benign hematology conditions, and other non-hematologic cancers.
Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessments, medication administration, IV therapy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, infection prevention, fall prevention, and management of oncology-related emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome. The RN will support chemotherapy care, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, and heparin drips while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team including pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams.
The nurse will utilize Epic electronic medical records for documentation and provide safe, evidence-based care in a high-acuity inpatient oncology environment. The position requires current acute care Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last 12 months. Oncology experience is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Medical Surgical nursing experience
Current inpatient acute care experience must be within the last 12 months
Experience must match the specialty being applied for
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Ability to care for adult and geriatric patient populations
Experience with Med/Surg and telemetry nursing
Willingness to learn and expand oncology nursing skills
Certifications:
BLS (Required)
ACLS (Required)
OCN Certification (Required)
Preferred Experience:
Inpatient oncology nursing
Hematology oncology patient care
Teaching hospital experience
Chemotherapy and infusion experience
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification
