IV Infusion Nurses often encounter challenges such as managing difficult venous access in patients, handling high patient volumes, and ensuring strict adherence to infection control protocols. While both Iv Infusion Nurses and Registered Nurses hold RN licenses, Iv Infusion Nurses specialize in administering IV therapies and infusions, often requiring additional certification. Registered Nurses have a broader scope of practice across various healthcare settings. The main difference lies in the focus on infusion procedures for Iv Infusion Nurses versus general patient care for RNs.

What is an IV infusion nurse?

IV Infusion Nurses are specialized registered nurses who focus on administering intravenous (IV) therapies, such as fluids, medications, blood products, and nutrition, directly into a patient's vein. They are skilled in starting and maintaining IV lines, monitoring patients for reactions, and ensuring safe and effective infusion therapy. IV Infusion Nurses work in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and patients’ homes. Their expertise is essential for patients who require long-term or complex IV treatments.

Do infusion nurses get paid more?

Infusion nurses typically earn higher salaries compared to general nursing roles due to specialized skills in administering IV therapies, managing complex patient needs, and often working in outpatient or home care settings. Factors such as experience, certifications, and geographic location can also influence their pay rates.

How do you become an IV infusion nurse?

To become an IV infusion nurse, you typically need to earn a nursing license by completing an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Additional certification in infusion therapy, such as the Infusion Nursing Certification (CRNI), can enhance job prospects and demonstrate specialized skills in administering IV treatments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IV infusion nurse?

To thrive as an IV Infusion Nurse, you need expertise in intravenous therapy, venipuncture, and patient assessment, typically supported by an active RN license and infusion therapy certification (such as CRNI). Familiarity with infusion pumps, electronic health records (EHRs), and strict adherence to aseptic techniques are essential. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to reassure and educate patients are critical soft skills for this role. These skills ensure safe and effective infusion therapy, minimize complications, and foster a positive patient experience.

Job description

We're looking to connect with Per Diem Home Infusion Nurses who want their work to mean something - Registered Nurses who bring clinical expertise, independence, and compassion to every visit.

Why This Role Matters

Home infusion nursing requires skill, judgment, and trust. As a Per Diem Home Infusion Nurse at LUX Infusion, you are often the primary clinical presence in a patient's care - delivering therapy, education, and reassurance.

In this role, you'll contribute to work that:

  • Helps patients receive infusion therapies safely at home or in infusion suites
  • Supports continuity of care outside traditional clinical settings
  • Builds confidence for patients and caregivers through clear education and calm communication
  • Advances a patientfirst, clinicianled approach to infusion care

Your work ensures patients can continue treatment with dignity, safety, and peace of mind.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Administer, monitor, and discontinue intravenous therapies in patient homes or infusion suite settings
  • Insert and manage IV access including peripheral lines, PICC lines, ports, and midlines
  • Monitor patients throughout infusion therapy, recognizing and responding to adverse reactions or changes in condition
  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples as ordered
  • Complete patient assessments, vital signs, and reviews of systems during each visit
  • Provide individualized education to patients and caregivers on infusion therapy, line care, and symptom monitoring
  • Coordinate visit schedules, staffing needs, and communication with internal teams and external partners
  • Accurately document all patientrelated care, medications administered, and patient responses
  • Communicate clinical concerns or reportable events promptly to physicians and internal clinical leadership
  • Uphold all confidentiality, compliance, and ethical standards in accordance with state and federal regulations

What We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you bring:

  • Strong clinical judgment and confidence working independently in homebased environments
  • Clear, compassionate communication with patients and caregivers
  • Comfort managing IV therapy outside acute care settings
  • Strong organization, flexibility, and attention to detail
  • A patientcentered mindset grounded in empathy and professionalism

Required Qualifications

  • Nursing degree from an accredited college or university
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida
  • Minimum of two (2) years of RN experience
  • IV certification with experience in central line care and management
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within service territory
  • CPR certification
  • Experience with clinical documentation and care coordination
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical systems
  • Willingness to travel to patient homes and healthcare facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • RN licensure in additional states
  • Prior experience in home infusion, home care, critical care, emergency nursing, ambulatory infusion centers, or discharge planning
  • Experience with PICC, port, or midline access and certification
