Planet Forward, a project of the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, teaches, celebrates, and rewards environmental storytelling by college students. Engaging a diverse audience from across the country, Planet Forward uses storytelling, media, and educational events to tell the stories of invention and innovation that can move the planet forward.
Position Specific Summary
The Planet Forward editorial assistant will work with peers to prepare and finalize content for publication to meet both Planet Forward and The Associated Press standards. Student will copy-edit, fact-check, write headlines, update the SEO for each assigned story under direction of editorial staff. Student will also update website copy, provide feedback and ideas during events planning, and complete other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare editorial content for publication as assigned
- Assist in updating website copy and other public-facing content as assigned
- Provide student input on events schedule, including speakers and timing
- Assist with fostering the PF community through our social media properties
- Perform research and other tasks as assigned
Standard Position Description
The student will provide assistance in management and planning for print, web, social media, and/or other digital content. Tasks may include: reviewing existing departmental websites and suggest edits, executing a marketing plan, website maintenance, updating and/or developing key materials and opportunities used to promoting departmental expertise and practices, editing or creating videos, and assisting in the management of social media channels, including writing and posting original content. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental/faculty needs.

Required Qualifications
Some applicable educational, technical, or professional experience required, some training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with editing, reporting, and research
• Experience with providing feedback to peers and good at building rapport
• Passionate about environment, sustainability, and/or science
• High attention to detail & knowledge of AP Style
• Experience using WordPress, Google Docs, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc
