JOB SUMMARY:
Our synergetic Ethos IT Team is growing and seeking a full-time Data Architect (REMOTE) to lead the modernization of our enterprise data environment. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, cloud-based data architecture, transitioning from on-prem systems to AWS, and enabling advanced analytics and AI capabilities across the organization.
Our ideal candidate is a forward-thinking Data Architect who thrives on modernizing data environments and building scalable, cloud-based solutions that support advanced analytics and AI. They bring deep technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset to drive data strategy and innovation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Data Architecture & Modernization - Lead transition from Microsoft SQL Server to AWS Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible) and drive overall data strategy.
  • Cloud & Database Management - Architect and manage AWS database services (Aurora, RDS, DMS).
  • AI & Data Innovation - Implement vectorized data storage solutions to support machine learning and generative AI use cases.
  • Data Modeling & Integration - Develop and maintain logical and physical data models aligned with business needs.
  • Performance Optimization - Monitor, tune, and ensure high-performing database environments.
  • Data Governance & Security - Establish frameworks for compliance, security, and data integrity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with engineering, analytics, and business teams.
  • Technical Leadership - Mentor team members and contribute to strategic architecture decisions.
  • Documentation & Standards - Maintain architecture documentation, standards, and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant experience may be a substitute for formal education.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10+ years of SQL database design, development, and administration (required).
  • Experience with AWS database services including Aurora, RDS, DMS (required).
  • Background supporting AI/ML workflows in enterprise environments (required).
  • Experience in insurance, claims, or investigative services (preferred).
  • Experience working with sensitive data environments (e.g., HIPAA).

Certifications:
  • AWS Certified Database Specialty or AWS Solutions Architect (preferred).

Skills:
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS) and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
  • Experience with vector databases (e.g., OpenSearch, pgvector, Pinecone).
  • Understanding of data security, privacy, and disaster recovery.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a primarily remote position working in a home office environment, with a preference for candidates able to work within Eastern or Central Time Zone business hours. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting or standing while operating a computer and other office equipment. Occasional travel may be required, including overnight stays. Frequent communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders is expected.
