Job description

Position Title: Paraprofessional Instructional Aide Location Code:ย  ย  Department:ย  Employee Status:ย  Employee ย  Revision Date: Part time ย  ย  FLSA Status:ย  Non-Exempt Working Period:ย  9-10-11 month Bargaining Unit Status:ย  Excluded Date Approved by Board:ย  ย 

Position Purpose:

  • As outlined by the student handbook, students may be assigned to in-school suspension as a consequence.ย 
  • The purpose of in-school suspension is to provide students with the opportunity to continue their academic progress while temporarily removing them from the traditional classroom.ย ย 
  • Students may also be placed in the ISS room on a class basis, or while waiting to see an administrator.
  • The supervisor should know students by name and treat all students with respect.ย 
  • Supervisors are encouraged to form positive, professional relationships with students and to communicate and enforce fair and reasonable expectations.
  • Students who understand the rules and who see those rules consistently and fairly enforced are generally respectful of the expectations.
  • Supervisors should know students assigned to them by name.ย Study hall supervisors will provide constant supervision of the students assigned to them and are encouraged to walk around the room to properly monitor.
  • The ISS supervisor will monitor the students while on breaks and may monitor the students during student lunch.
  • The ISS supervisor will enforce rules which contribute to a quiet, focused, productive learning environment.
  • The supervisor will enforce a policy which prohibits cell phone use, along with enforcing all school policies.ย 
  • The supervisor will follow a schedule which is fair to students, but which is a reduction of social privileges from the regular school day / classroom environment.
  • The ISS supervisor will communicate with teachers so that students have all materials needed to complete the day's activities and assignments.ย 
  • The ISS supervisor will be responsible for running discipline and attendance reports for assigned students. The ISS supervisor may also communicate with other staff members as needed to support students.

5 days / week; 6 hours per day; (30 minutes unpaid lunch)
8:15 a.m.-2:45 p.m.
All days that students are in session.
