Job description

Description:

Main Purpose:

To perform all painting and sandblasting job functions per contract/job specifications and quality assurance requirements/blasting and painting procedures and established ISO-QA/QC program standards. This position is located Offshore in the Gulf of America, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico.


Essential Functions:

  • Operate painting and blasting equipment (pressure paint guns, pressure blasting nozzles/hoses, industrial air compressors, etc.) safely and efficiently
  • Clean and maintain all related painting and blasting equipment, including safety equipment (blasting hoods, air hoses, respirators etc.)
  • Operate power tools, cleaning and brush painting
  • Apply primer and paint coatings as required in a manner that will ensure quality and unnecessary waste
  • Inspect, start and maintain equipment that delivers blast and regulates pressures that produce a safe and efficient environment
  • Determine paint flow, viscosity and coating quality by performing a visual inspection or viscometers
  • Weigh or measure chemicals, coating or paints before adding them to machines
  • Appropriately dispose of hazardous waste
  • Use a blast hose, spray gun and respirator hood to paint structures, pipes and valves
  • Blast beams, angle iron, shuts, valves and pipe to prepare items for painting
  • Pull triggers and direct spray onto the work surface to apply prime or finish coat
  • Wear protective hood and respirator when blasting / painting structures and pipes
  • Spray primer coat, intermediate coat and final coat
  • Assist with rigging
  • Follow company specifications and procedures
  • Follow MSDS on safety equipment
  • Protect against fumes and discoloration of the product
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Requirements:


Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing
  • Turning, twisting, bending, and balancing
  • Pushing, pulling and reaching
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in offshore blasting / painting
  • Must know how to use pressurized paint pots, blast pots, sandblasting hoses and nozzles
  • Must know how read a wet and dry mill paint gauges
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Valid TWIC card

Desirable Experience, Education, and Training:

  • Highschool diploma or GED

Tools, Equipment, and Technology:

Individuals must know and use pressure paint guns, sandblasting hoses and nozzles, wet mill paint gauges, paint pots, air pressure compressors, protective blasting hoods, and breathing respirators.


Environmental Conditions:

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc. They will also be exposed to paint thinner and paint fumes.
