Job Summary:

The ISA Certified Sales Arborist is a dynamic Outside Sales role that applies deep knowledge of urban forestry and modern tree care in a highly interactive, client-facing setting. Sales Arborists customarily and regularly meet with new and existing clients away from Seattle Tree Careโ€™s place of business โ€” at client homes and project sites โ€” to assess needs, perform diagnostics, and provide professional recommendations aligned with best tree care practices. The primary duty of this role is making sales and obtaining customer commitments for paid tree care services, including preparing and presenting proposals and securing approval for work to be performed. Beyond the sales function, the Sales Arborist translates field assessments into professional proposals, manages project details from estimate through execution, and coordinates directly with clients and crews to ensure safe, profitable, and high-quality project outcomes. The ideal candidate enjoys public interfacing, has an innate desire to continue learning about arboriculture, is driven by safety and goal achievement, and is self-motivated and organized. Strong communication skills, situational awareness, a commitment to team success, and attention to detail are essential. A practical background in the green industry is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform client intake and lead qualifying
  • Meet with potential new and existing clients to review and discuss tree care needs, performing site assessments and professional diagnostics
  • Prepare proposals that clearly outline scope of work and cost; submit to prospective clients in a timely manner
  • Actively seek new sales opportunities through networking, community engagement, and business development activity
  • Identify and secure new residential, commercial, and municipal contracts
  • Maintain a consistent pipeline of outside sales activity to achieve annual sales performance targets
  • Provide excellent customer service with prompt, professional, and empathetic communication throughout the client relationship
  • Prepare accurate work orders for crews to optimize job efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction
  • Work closely with clients and the Project Coordinator to schedule all green-light projects
  • Manage project details and costs to ensure all projects fall within profitability targets
  • Gauge and assess project equipment needs to maintain project safety and profitability
  • File and obtain required city permits as necessary; identify permit needs and coordinate with the consulting team when applicable
  • Perform day-of-work site visits and communicate with crews to ensure work is completed to client specifications and in accordance with STC safety policies
  • Meet with clients on site to answer questions or address concerns regarding tree work being performed
  • Provide input for company-wide strategy, systems, and growth
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Current ISA Certified Arboristยฎ credential required
  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in customer service, estimating, or client-facing sales required
  • Practical background in arboriculture, urban forestry, or the green industry strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with basic computer tools and CRM software (Google Workspace, CRM systems)
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check
  • Strong organizational and mathematical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and long-term relationships with clients, peers, and crews
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of managing a personal sales pipeline independently

Requirements and Skills:

  • Ability to perform sustained field work, including walking and standing on residential and commercial properties throughout the workday
  • Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces during site assessments
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations, including identifying tree hazards and worksite safety risks
  • Ability to work in varying environmental and weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind) while conducting site visits
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, including during client meetings, proposal preparation, and administrative work
  • Ability to use computer and mobile technology for CRM, proposal preparation, and communication throughout the workday

Reporting & Presence:

  • This is a field-based Outside Sales role; the Sales Arborist spends the majority of working time performing client meetings and site assessments away from STCโ€™s place of business
  • Administrative work including proposals, work orders, and CRM management may be completed remotely or at company facilities
  • Must be available during standard Pacific Time business hours and responsive to client and team communications throughout the workday
  • Must maintain a clean driving record and have reliable personal transportation to travel to client sites throughout the Seattle service area
  • Participates in scheduled sales team meetings, pipeline reviews, and performance check-ins with the Director of Sales
