Job description

Job Title:           Irrigation Technician

Department:   Parks, Trails and Recreation

Supervisor:      Parks Supervisor

Full Salary Range:   $27.59 – $36.62 per hour

Anticipated Salary Range:   $27.59 – $32.11 per hour      Commensurate to experience
This is a Full-time/hourly position

About the Role

As an Irrigation Technician, you will perform highly skilled work in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems across City parks, landscape areas, open spaces, rights-of-way, and trails. This role ensures these areas remain safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. You will also participate in snow and ice control activities, operate light to heavy equipment, and occasionally lead seasonal staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a variety of irrigation systems, including programming timers and schedules for water efficiency.
  • Install and repair irrigation pipes (½” to 12”) using PVC, copper, HDPE, and gasket fittings.
  • Operate and maintain pumping stations and large municipal irrigation systems.
  • Read and revise irrigation construction drawings; maintain as-built electronic files.
  • Utilize technical tools and software such as Rain Bird, Maxicom, IQ products, Baseline AppManager, and Weathermatic Smartlink.
  • Perform annual testing, winterization, and emergency repairs.
  • Assist with landscape maintenance, including mowing, planting, fertilizing, and pesticide application.
  • Operate light to heavy equipment and participate in snow and ice control operations.
  • Collect and maintain data using CityWorks, GIS/GPS, and AutoCAD.
  • Respond to after-hours calls for service and emergencies.

What We're Looking For

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Expertise in irrigation system maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of trenching, shoring, and confined space safety practices.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead seasonal staff and work independently.

Education & Experience:

  • Four years of landscape maintenance experience, including two years in irrigation systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 180 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain irrigation-related certifications within one year (CIT, CLIA, CPO).

Working Conditions
