Job Title: Apprentice (First 90 days) - Residential Irrigation Technician

Position Overview: The Apprentice is a mid-level position designed for individuals who are eager to develop their skills in irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair. This role provides hands-on training and experience under the guidance of experienced technicians, with the goal of progressing to a technician role. The apprentice will gain exposure to various aspects of irrigation work and learn to perform tasks safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is ambitious with a ‘can-do’ attitude and a strong desire to contribute to the success of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Learning and Development:

  • Assist experienced technicians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Observe and learn how to design and layout irrigation systems according to company standards, design specifications and local codes.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to build technical skills and industry knowledge.
  • Complete written and practical assessments of job skills and knowledge.

Installation and Maintenance Support:

  • Help with the installation of irrigation system components, such as points of connection controllers, pipes, valves, sprinkler heads and micro-irrigation.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks under supervision to ensure irrigation systems function properly and efficiently.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of basic irrigation system issues, with opportunities to engage in more complex repairs under supervision.

Technical Skills Development:

  • Gain a foundational understanding of irrigation system components, hydraulic principles, and water conservation practices.
  • Learn electrical troubleshooting techniques and how to use various tools and equipment.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to irrigation system installation and maintenance.
  • Properly maintain and store tools and equipment to ensure safe usage and compliance with company standards.

Customer Interaction:

  • Accompany technicians on service calls and installations to gain experience in customer interaction.
  • Learn to communicate effectively with customers to explain basic irrigation system operations and maintenance procedures, as well as develop advanced sales techniques and approaches.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of work performed, including service reports and installation logs.
  • Support the documentation of inventory usage and report any issues to the supervisor.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other apprentices, technicians, and support staff to contribute to project success and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to group learning experiences.

Professionalism and Conduct:

  • Physical demands of the job include standing, bending, lifting up to 75 lbs., and performing manual digging.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
