Job description

We are looking for aย Yellow Iron Mechanic to join our team inย West Valley City, Utah. As a Yellow Iron Mechanic with Quikrete Heavy Construction Materials, you will be responsible for maintenance and servicing of yellow iron equipment with or without direction from the Maintenance Supervisor or Head Mechanic.

About the Roleย 

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repair

  • Diagnose and repairย engine,ย hydraulic,ย electrical,ย cooling,ย fuel, andย drive trainย systems.
  • Service and rebuild components such as: Hydraulic cylinders (boom, stick, bucket), Pumps and motors, Final drives, Swing bearings, Radiators, coolers, and aftercoolers, DEF/NRS systems, Undercarriage
  • Perform scheduledย Preventative Maintenance (PMs)ย following OEM and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot fault codes usingย CAT ETย or similar diagnostic software.
  • Identify root causes of repeated failures and report them to the Equipment Manager.
  • Perform welding and fabrication as needed (pins, bushings, brackets, guards).

Field Service

  • Respond to breakdowns on active jobsites (aggregate pits, construction sites, etc.).
  • Safely perform field diagnostics and repairs with minimal downtime.
  • Communicate equipment status and ETA on repairs.

Documentation & Communication

  • Complete accurate service reports and work orders.
  • Track parts usage, labor hours, and service notes.
  • Relay equipment needs, operator issues, or safety concerns.

Safety

  • Follow all safety guidelines includingย Lockout/Tagoutย and 360ยฐ walkaround inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, organized service truck and shop area.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.

About You

We Require:

  • Experience:
    • 2+ years heavy equipment/yellow iron mechanic experience (preferred).
    • Strong understanding ofย Caterpillar, Komatsu, or John Deereย equipment.
    • Proficient with hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to read equipment schematics and parts diagrams.
    • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
    • Valid driverโ€™s license; CDL is a plus.
    • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in outdoor jobsite conditions.
