Job description

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Site Manager and Physicians, IR Technologist is responsible for preforming high quality, diagnostic angiography and interventional procedures on patients of all ages, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and angiographic systems.  The technologist demonstrates clinical competency in all aspects of interventional radiology including; sterile technique, angiographic supplies and medications/lab test values.  The work situations for this position are varied and require some independent judgment as well as ingenuity and initiative in order to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. 

Compensation:

Pay: $40.33 - $68.56 per hour based on relevant experience, skills, and abilities. As a per diem position, this role also is eligible for a +15% "in lieu of benefits" hourly bonus.

Schedule: 10 hour shifts, Monday - Friday, on a per diem basis. Per Diem employees are expected to work a minimum of 2 shifts or 16 hours per month.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provides patient care in accordance with the mission statement of TRA.

  2. Obtains a thorough patient history as it relates to the exam to be completed.

  3. The Interventional Technologist must be able to closely follow provider instructions, prepare radiographic/fluoroscopy equipment, position patients correctly and accurately capture the diagnostic image needed for procedure to be completed.  

  4. Able to complete examinations in a timely manner.

  5. Adheres to the exam protocols and policies, procedures as established by the department.

  6. Utilize proper radiation safety devices such as lead aprons and thyroid collars to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.

  7. Shields patient from unnecessary radiation exposure. Properly knows how to manipulate and use functions of carm to reduce dose to patient and staff. ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achieved) Radiation Safety principle.

  8. Helps maintain IR supply inventory, and has working knowledge of those supplies and their appropriate application as it applies to IR procedures.

  9. Makes sure that supplies are stocked in IR procedure room, notify ordering representative when stock is low.

  10. Setup for IR procedures by selecting needed supplies for case, and preparing IR equipment, and support equipment prior to procedure.

  11. Practices sterile technique/maintains sterile field in setting up for IR cases, and during IR procedures, actively adheres to infection control polices

  12. Assist provider and RN with IR cases as needed by acting as scrub tech.

  13. Maintains sterile technique/sterile field during procedures.

  14. Technologist actively engages with procedure, and assists with requests.

  15. Has working knowledge of C-arm and specific functions needed for IR cases,

  16. Appropriately prepares the patient for IR procedures, positioning, prepping procedure specific site if needed

  17. Sterilizes non-disposable instruments in accordance with company policy.  Actively takes a role in QA and sterilization process, and monitoring of sterilization.

  18. Cleans IR room and equipment following procedures. Actively ensures work area is clean and infection control policies are followed.

  19. Appropriately explains procedures to patient and consents procedure when appropriate.

  20. Make sure patient is educated on procedure specific after care.

  21. Assist with post procedure follow up as needed.

  22. Completes Modality Worksheet with accurate information for the Radiologist

  23. Utilizes exemplary customer service skills with patient and family members.

  24. Performs necessary computer functions associated with patient exam. Includes the RIS (Radiology Information System) and McKesson PACS.

  25. Keeps work area and patient exam areas neat and stocked with appropriate supplies.

  26. Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel

  27. Able to apply IV principles under the scope of practice for Radiologic Technologists.

  28. Wear Radiation Badge daily

  29. Able to use good body mechanics to avoid injury to oneself and the patient

  30. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience

  • Graduate from an Accredited Radiologic Technology program is required

  • Experience with sterile fields and sterile technique preferred

  • ARRT registry required or registry-eligible in Interventional Radiology

  • Washington State Licensure required

  • Current BLS certification required

Physical Requirements

Work is classified as moderate in physical requirements. Must be able to assist in supporting patients of varying weight. Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Also requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as necessary.

Mental Requirements

Work requires high attention to detail and the ability to handle mentally stressful situations. The ability to maintain high level of sensitivity towards confidential information is also required.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Work environment consists of normal office or administrative working conditions. There may be exposure to communicable diseases. There will be limited exposure to ionizing radiation.
