Job description

The Quality Manager will focus on quality support, adhering to the company's Quality Management System (QMS), and providing operational support to achieve quality and QMS standards. This position will coordinate all quality operations and assist in resolving quality issues, escalating to the Operations Manager/Ownership as necessary. Knowledge of printed circuit board assembly manufacturing and quality assurance is key to this position. The role can be expanded to include QMS Representative onsite for all audit and registration purposes if experience warrants.
Supervision and Oversight - see also core responsibilities:
  • Manage the coordination of quality assurance/inspection operations, with supervisor or lead support.
  • Manage the supervisor in assigning the inspectors' daily workload to meet shipping demands.
  • Assist in staffing the quality assurance workcenter.
  • Supervise QMS conformance internally.

Quality Standards and Improvement
  • Maintain IPC 610 knowledge and awareness.
  • Monitor production's conformance with quality standards, collaborating with production teams to enhance efficiency, address non-conformances, and identify root causes for defects/non-conformances.
  • Identify and implement corrective action and process improvement opportunities as required.
  • Referee findings of QA Inspectors/Supervisor to ensure schedules are maintained and industry/customer standards are met.
  • Monitor Job Non-Conformance cases for investigation specific to QA Rework Trend monitoring.
  • Assist in identifying actions and methods to prevent recurrence for Job Non-Conformances.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving issues impacting various workcenters that affect key performance indicators such as Job Impact Days, Scheduling, and Quality Issues.

QMS Maintenance and Auditing
  • Maintain, monitor, and measure the QMS specific to Release of Product.
  • Coordinate the process to gather and store forms and documents required to maintain evidence of conformance, per the QMS.

Customer Support
  • Respond and organize quality responses to external customers regarding quality inquiries, requests for material return (RMA), or non-conforming investigations.
  • Research, resolve, and communicate to customers regarding returned material or quality concerns.
  • Respond to customers via email, telephone, or in-person interactions regarding all aspects of quality assurance specific to their products.
  • Assist in NPI (New Product Introduction) with the Production and Infrastructure team Managers to identify Quality related risks and opportunities. Communicate feedback to customers regarding design for manufacturing considerations.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Standard Application: Apply global IPC criteria (e.g., IPC-A-610 for acceptability, J-STD-001 for soldering, or IPC-6012 for bare boards) to manufacturing, inspection, and rework processes.
  • Defect Prevention: Maintain and participate in the audit of robust Quality Management System (QMS) frameworks to address and mitigate non-conformances, enforcing root-cause and corrective actions (CAPA/RCCA).
  • Training and Mentorship: Develop internal quality training programs and ensure continuous staff alignment with the latest industry standards.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Certification: Active or obtainable IPC certification at the trainer or specialist level (CIT).
  • Experience: 5 to 10+ years in a technical quality or PCB/PCBA manufacturing environment.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Deep familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 quality standards alongside the specific IPC specifications.
