What is an IoT full stack developer?

An IoT Full Stack Developer is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains both the hardware and software components of Internet of Things (IoT) systems. They work across the entire technology stack, from device firmware and embedded systems to cloud platforms, databases, and user interfaces. These developers are skilled in programming, networking, and data management, enabling the integration and communication of physical devices with digital applications. Their role is crucial in building seamless, secure, and scalable IoT solutions that collect, process, and present data to users or other systems.

What are some common challenges IoT full stack developers face when integrating hardware and software components?

IoT Full Stack Developers often encounter challenges when bridging the gap between embedded hardware and cloud-based applications. Key issues include ensuring reliable communication between devices and servers, managing security risks across multiple layers, and handling large volumes of data generated by connected devices. Additionally, developers must coordinate with hardware engineers, firmware developers, and backend teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance. Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills are crucial for overcoming these technical and collaborative hurdles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IoT full stack developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IoT Full Stack Developer, you need expertise in both hardware and software integration, proficiency in programming languages like Python, JavaScript, and C/C++, and a solid understanding of networking protocols. Experience with IoT platforms (such as AWS IoT or Azure IoT), database management, and familiarity with embedded systems and cloud services are typically required, along with relevant certifications. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and adaptability set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial for building reliable, scalable IoT solutions that bridge devices, data, and user interfaces while ensuring seamless collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate has hands-on SAP Fiori experience, understands the RESTful Application Programming Model and is eager to continue developing within a collaborative SAP team. This is an excellent opportunity for an earlier-career SAP professional who wants exposure to a large custom application portfolio and a variety of business functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and enhance SAP Fiori applications using Fiori Elements and SAPUI5.
  • Develop full-stack SAP solutions that support accounting, operations, land, engineering and other business teams.
  • Build transactional and analytical applications using RAP, CDS Views, AMDP and OData services.
  • Design backend services and data models using ABAP on HANA.
  • Apply HANA push-down techniques to improve application and database performance.
  • Translate business and functional requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Develop integrations and business logic across core SAP modules.
  • Partner with data, integration, analytics and custom-development teams.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to development standards and best practices.
  • Maintain clean, scalable code aligned with SAP UX and clean-core principles.
  • Continue learning emerging SAP technologies and AI-assisted development tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related discipline.
  • At least two years of hands-on SAP Fiori development experience.
  • Practical experience with SAP Fiori Elements and SAPUI5.
  • Experience with ABAP on HANA and the RESTful Application Programming Model.
  • Knowledge of CDS Views, AMDP and OData service development.
  • Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA and full-stack SAP application development.
  • Understanding of one or more core SAP modules, such as FI/CO, PS, MM, JVA or PRA.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with functional stakeholders and other technical teams.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a rapidly expanding SAP application environment.
  • Candidates with approximately two to five years of SAP experience are especially encouraged to apply.

Additional Details:

  • Familiarity with SAP development architecture, governance or coding standards is beneficial.
  • Experience with SAP Joule or other AI-assisted development tools is a plus.
  • Oil and gas industry knowledge is helpful but not required.
  • The development organization includes approximately 12 team members working across internal and external resources.
  • The interview process includes an initial virtual conversation followed by an onsite team interview.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
