Ios Mobile Developer Intern information

What does an iOS mobile developer intern do?

An iOS Mobile Developer Intern assists in designing, developing, and testing applications for Apple's iOS platform under the supervision of experienced developers. They typically work with languages like Swift or Objective-C and use tools such as Xcode. Interns may help fix bugs, implement new features, and participate in code reviews, gaining hands-on experience in mobile app development. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to build their skills in the tech industry.

What types of projects do iOS mobile developer interns typically work on, and how much autonomy can I expect during my internship?

As an iOS Mobile Developer Intern, you’ll often work on features or bug fixes for existing apps, contribute to UI/UX enhancements, or assist in developing new modules under the supervision of experienced developers. While you’ll be guided and mentored, many teams encourage interns to take ownership of smaller tasks or projects, allowing you to make meaningful contributions and learn independently. Collaboration with designers, QA testers, and back-end engineers is common, providing a well-rounded experience in cross-functional teamwork. Your responsibilities may also include code reviews, writing unit tests, and participating in agile ceremonies, which help you develop both technical and professional skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an iOS mobile developer intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an iOS Mobile Developer Intern, you need a solid understanding of Swift or Objective-C, basic knowledge of mobile app development concepts, and ideally enrollment in or completion of a computer science or related degree. Familiarity with Xcode, Interface Builder, and version control systems like Git is typically expected, and some internships may value experience with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate and collaborate within a team are crucial soft skills. These qualifications and skills enable you to contribute effectively to development projects, learn quickly, and adapt to the technical and collaborative demands of the role.

Job description

US Mobile is building the future of wireless communication. The goal: one unified network open to any person and any device, worldwide. Connection without walls. We're getting there by empowering customers. All three major networks on one phone and one plan, plus home internet from Starlink. No lock-in. No commitments. Custom fit plans at every price point. 24/7 customer support with real people, empowered to help. We get real-time feedback from Reddit, surveys, and customer support informing product roadmaps and everything we do. It's working - Consumer Reports named us the top-rated mobile carrier two years in a row.*

And we're building innovative systems that scale. A network agnostic tech stack. Agile, cross-functional teams built on trust and mutual respect. This work isn't for everyone. If you work fast, flexibly, and collaboratively - without compromising standards - we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do:
  • Build cross-platform mobile applications using React Native, ensuring modular, extensible, and maintainable architecture.
  • Modernize and refactor existing application features to enhance performance, scalability, and future-proofing by leveraging performance metrics and error monitoring platforms.
  • Partner closely with product and design stakeholders to create high-performance, user-friendly features with strong visual appeal.
  • Establish and maintain robust testing frameworks, reliability standards, and streamlined release processes as well as collaborate with QA to ensure testing coverage.
  • Guide and develop fellow engineers while fostering an environment focused on high-quality code, creative solutions, and ongoing skill development.
  • Create and maintain clear process documentation as well as contribute to development and design guidelines.
  • Research emerging technologies and best practices within the React Native ecosystem; present findings to the team and influence design and technical decisions.
  • Champion user experience across the product lifecycle, ensuring designs translate seamlessly into practical, engaging solutions.
Role Requirements:
  • Minimum 7 years in mobile development (with 5 years of hands-on React Native expertise). Proven track record of successfully launching applications on App Store and Google Play.
  • Knowledge of mobile user experience principles and the distinct characteristics of iOS and Android platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with continuous integration/deployment, over-the-air updates (such as Expo), and release automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in dynamic startup settings-delivering quickly without compromising code quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a passion for knowledge sharing and team collaboration.
Core Technologies We're Currently Building With:
  • React Native (0.83+) + TypeScript
  • Tanstack ReactQuery
  • React Navigation
Benefits:
  • Annual company offsite and hackathon in a global destination. Past locations include Dubai, Japan, and Hawaii, with New Zealand planned for 2027
  • Competitive Salary
  • Gym reimbursement
  • Commute reimbursement
  • Flexible working hours
  • Professional development stipend
  • Flexible time off
  • Cell phone service (up to $100/mo)
