Job description

About the Group: As a Quantitative Research Intern, you'll be part of a cohort of interns across the company, participating in training, mentorship, and networking opportunities while contributing meaningfully to our research and data science initiatives.We welcome students who are curious, analytical, and passionate about using data to improve investor outcomes. This internship is ideal for those interested in quantitative research, investment analysis, and financial technology.

The Program:We created the Morningstar Summer Internship Program for college students entering their final year as a first step towards successful, long-term careers in any professional field. Participants will contribute to different aspects of Morningstar's business through ten-week- individual and group projects, learning about the financial services and securities industries, and gaining critical business development skills. Our interns receive hands-on mentoring from their colleagues and the People & Culture team to help them succeed at Morningstar.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in cleaning and organizing financial datasets for use in research projects.

  • Support the development and testing of models using basic statistical techniques.

  • Help build visualizations and summaries to communicate research findings.

  • Shadow quantitative analysts to learn how they apply data science to investment questions.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand how research connects to Morningstar's products and services.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to improve research workflows.

  • Document processes and findings to support transparency and reproducibility.

Qualifications

  • Between 0-2 years of professional working experience.

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in a quantitative or financial discipline (in your second or third year of study).

  • Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis.

  • Basic knowledge of SQL and statistical methods.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

  • Detail-oriented, curious, and eager to learn.

  • Comfortable working independently and in team settings.

  • Prior experience with research projects, coding, or financial analysis is a plus.

  • Must possess unrestricted right to work in the U.S. for this position.
