What is investing?

Investing is the act of allocating money or resources to an asset, venture, or project with the expectation of generating income or profit over time. Common types of investments include stocks, bonds, real estate, and mutual funds. The goal of investing is typically to grow wealth, save for future goals, or generate passive income. While investing carries risks, it can also offer higher returns compared to simply saving money in a bank account. Educating yourself about different investment options and strategies is important to make informed decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an investment analyst?

To thrive as an Investment Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, financial modeling expertise, and a solid background in finance or economics, often supported by degrees such as a CFA or MBA. Proficiency with tools like Excel, Bloomberg Terminal, and financial databases is typically required for data analysis and reporting. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication are key soft skills that help in presenting insights and recommendations. These skills are crucial for making informed investment decisions, managing risk, and delivering value to clients or stakeholders.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in investing roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in investing roles often encounter challenges such as navigating market volatility, keeping up with rapidly changing financial regulations, and conducting thorough due diligence under tight deadlines. Success in this field requires strong analytical skills, adaptability, and effective communication to collaborate with colleagues and clients. Building a solid understanding of market trends and utilizing robust risk management strategies can help mitigate these challenges, as can continuous professional development and leveraging technology for research and analysis.

Job description

Job Description:

Note: Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position.

The Role

Working in our Investor Center, you will develop customized financial plans utilizing a wide range of products, services, and Fidelity's planning tools. Your good judgment and keen product knowledge will guide you. Instead of spending your time sourcing new customers, you will engage with existing clients and warm leads, which will allow your focus to remain where it matters most: providing investment solutions and growing relationships with a dedicated local advisor. In this role you will work directly with clients to help them make investment decisions that are in their best interest. By skillfully working with Fidelity's planning and guidance resources, you will present and implement solutions that suit the client's needs. This will develop a lasting impact on their financial future.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring
  • FINRA Series 7 & 66 licensed and hold appropriate state registrations, OR ability to acquire Series 66 upon hire
  • Leverage Fidelity's guidance tools to facilitate financial planning discussions and recommend solutions that best align with client needs
  • Use technology to prepare for and conduct efficient one-on-one appointments, maximizing client time and enabling effective follow-up planning
  • Grow relationships through proactive outreach, seeking to understand clients' goals and objectives and referring them to wealth management partners based on needs and financial complexity
  • A degree, equivalent experience, or other professional certifications are beneficial (our tuition reimbursement program can help obtain a CFP, degree, or equivalent credential)
  • Comprehensive understanding of various investment solutions and can educate customers on the values and differences of each
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to grow relationships are exemplary
  • Will take initiative and exceed expectations
  • Outstanding communication and consultative skills, and thrives in a fast-paced work environment
The Team

Fidelity's greatest advantage is our people, and we believe it is important to approach life holistically. We offer a competitive total rewards package, including a stable base salary, to recognize associate achievements. And our benefit programs are built to help you and your family strike the right balance. We offer training in-branch, regionally, nationally, and virtually to support you in all aspects of your business. You will not fail due to a lack of training or onboarding. You joined the financial services industry to make a difference in the lives of your clients. At Fidelity, we have a relentless commitment to our clients. Come join a firm that is a stable industry leader where we focus on the importance of communicating to connect and not just communicating to transact. We empower professional flexibility, growth, and support thus enabling long-term success for you and our clients.

Fidelity's Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.

The base salary range for this position is $59,000 - $74,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.

We offer a wide range of benefits to meet your evolving needs and help you live your best life at work and at home. These benefits include comprehensive health care coverage and emotional well-being support, market-leading retirement, generous paid time off and parental leave, charitable giving employee match program, and educational assistance including student loan repayment, tuition reimbursement, and learning resources to develop your career. Note, the application window closes when the position is filled or unposted.

Please be advised that Fidelity's business is governed by the provisions of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, ERISA, numerous state laws governing securities, investment and retirement-related financial activities and the rules and regulations of numerous self-regulatory organizations, including FINRA, among others. Those laws and regulations may restrict Fidelity from hiring and/or associating with individuals with certain Criminal Histories.
