What is inventory management?

Inventory management is the process of ordering, storing, tracking, and controlling a company's inventory. It ensures that businesses have the right quantity of products in the right place at the right time. Effective inventory management helps reduce costs, prevent stockouts or overstock situations, and improves overall operational efficiency. This process often involves using specialized software and techniques to monitor inventory levels, orders, sales, and deliveries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in inventory management?

To thrive in Inventory Management, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of supply chain processes, often supported by a degree in business, logistics, or a related field. Familiarity with inventory management software such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite, and sometimes relevant certifications like APICS CPIM, is typically required. Effective communication, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities set outstanding inventory managers apart.
