Inventory Control Specialist

Location:  Wichita, Kansas

Department:  Warehouse

Reports To:  Warehouse Receiving/Inventory Lead and Warehouse Supervisor

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Employment Type:  Full-Time

Compensation:  $18.00–$23.00 per hour, commensurate with experience; overtime-eligible

Requisition:  ORB-HR-REQ-100

POSITION SUMMARY

The Inventory Control Specialist maintains accurate inventory records and ensures inventory integrity throughout the warehouse. This position monitors inventory transactions, performs audits and cycle counts, investigates discrepancies, and works closely with warehouse personnel to support efficient operations and accurate order fulfillment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accurate inventory records using the company's Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP system.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cycle counts to verify inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, overages, and damaged goods.
  • Monitor inventory transactions, including receipts, transfers, adjustments, and shipments.
  • Coordinate with receiving, shipping, and warehouse teams to ensure inventory accuracy throughout all processes.
  • Reconcile physical inventory with system records and prepare inventory adjustment documentation.
  • Analyze inventory trends and identify opportunities to improve accuracy and warehouse efficiency.
  • Generate inventory reports and communicate findings to management.
  • Ensure proper product identification, labeling, and storage practices; assist with annual physical inventory and internal or external audits.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Train warehouse personnel on proper inventory procedures and support continuous improvement initiatives and other warehouse projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of warehouse inventory control or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with WMS, ERP systems, or inventory management software.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and data entry.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Forklift certification.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and warehouse best practices.
  • Experience with barcode scanning and RF handheld devices.
  • Strong mathematical and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to identify process improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a fast-paced warehouse or distribution center environment with exposure to warehouse equipment, moving machinery, noise, and varying temperatures. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to operate forklifts or other warehouse equipment (certification preferred). Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required to support business needs.
