Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler performs a wide range of shipping, receiving, and inventory control activities in a clean and organized aerospace machine shop environment. This role prepares items for shipment using cost-effective courier services, maintains accurate records of materials in inventory and on order, and monitors reorder points to ensure timely replenishment of stock. The position also supports and may lead the work of shipping and receiving personnel, reconciles inventory discrepancies, and promptly reports irregularities to supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily shipping and receiving activities, including preparing items for shipment and ensuring cost-effective courier services are used.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials in inventory and on order, updating systems and documentation as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reorder points, and initiate actions to replenish stock to avoid shortages or delays.
  • Reconcile discrepancies in inventory counts and documentation, and notify the supervisor of any irregularities or issues.
  • Read and understand drawings and blueprints to accurately identify materials and support production requirements.
  • Use industrial band saws, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment with minimal assistance, following all safety procedures.
  • Assist Engineers, Buyers, and Planners with material requirements, planning, and substitutions to support production schedules.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions in English and ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support and guide shipping and receiving personnel as needed to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to procedures.
  • Assist the Raw Material Lead with additional duties as assigned, including material picking, machine operation support, and general warehouse tasks.
  • Use computer systems and basic software (Internet Explorer, Word, Excel) to track inventory, prepare documentation, and communicate status updates.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with aerospace shop standards.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and job stability, consistently meeting scheduling and productivity expectations.
  • Participate in overtime opportunities when desired and as business needs require.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with supervisors, leads, engineers, buyers, planners, and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage inventory, documentation, and workflow efficiently.
  • Ability to take direction from a Lead, Supervisor, or Manager and follow instructions accurately.
  • Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Capability to use material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, following safety guidelines.
  • Job stability and reliable attendance, with a strong commitment to being present and on time.
  • Ability to work in a production and warehouse environment, handling materials and supporting aerospace manufacturing operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with precision measuring equipment is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with industrial power tools is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with industrial band saws and other shop equipment is an advantage.
  • Exposure to aerospace manufacturing or machine shop environments is beneficial.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with machine operation support tasks.
  • Experience with inventory control, material handling, and production support in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Willingness to learn material requirements and assist with material planning and substitutions.
  • Ability to perform picking and material movement tasks safely and efficiently.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tukwila, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
