Material Handler (Inventory Control)

Huntsman is seeking a Material Handler (Inventory Control) supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Los Angeles, California. This position will report to the Logistics Manager.

Job Scope

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

Warehouse Operations & Material Handling
  • Receive, inspect, identify, store, move, stage, and deliver raw materials, packaging materials, hazardous materials, and finished goods throughout the site.
  • Verify material numbers, lot numbers, quantities, labels, packaging condition, and required documentation before materials are accepted, moved, or issued.
  • Operate forklifts, Drexel equipment, manual pallet jacks, drum lifters, scissor lifts, scales, label printers, and other approved warehouse equipment.
  • Support production and packaging areas by delivering the correct materials, quantities, and lots on time and returning unused materials to the appropriate storage location.
  • Maintain proper storage, segregation, and inventory rotation practices, including FIFO or FEFO when applicable.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities, including staging finished goods, verifying Quality Control release, and preparing materials for internal or external shipment.
Inventory Control & Documentation
  • Complete accurate and timely SAP and Vanquish transactions for receipts, transfers, goods issues, returns, scrap, cycle counts, and approved inventory adjustments.
  • Perform cycle counts, reconcile physical inventory to system records, research discrepancies, and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Maintain accurate stock labels, storage locations, inventory records, and material traceability throughout warehouse and production areas.
  • Support inventory audits and promptly communicate unresolved discrepancies, damaged materials, labeling concerns, or transaction errors.
Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, chemical-handling procedures, site rules, and required personal protective equipment practices.
  • Safely handle and stage hazardous materials, including flammable and corrosive chemicals, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Wear required respiratory protection and successfully complete applicable medical clearance, fit testing, and training.
  • Conduct pre-use equipment inspections and immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, leaks, damaged materials, or equipment concerns.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready warehouse, dock, yard, and storage areas using 5S and housekeeping practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse layout, inventory accuracy, material flow, storage practices, and operational efficiency; support Lean and other continuous-improvement activities.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, and train others when assigned.
What Success Looks Like During Your First Year
  • Safely and consistently perform assigned warehouse and material handling responsibilities in accordance with Huntsman procedures.
  • Demonstrates safe and proficient forklift operation and completes all required equipment qualifications.
  • Completes SAP inventory transactions accurately and on time with minimal preventable discrepancies.
  • Maintains accurate material identification, storage locations, inventory rotation, documentation, and traceability.
  • Reliably supports multiple production and packaging areas by delivering the correct materials and quantities on schedule.
  • Successfully completes assigned training and qualification milestones and contributes practical ideas that improve safety, warehouse organization, inventory accuracy, or material flow.

Associates may become eligible to begin the Tier qualification process after a minimum of 12 months based on demonstrated competency and business needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of warehouse, material handling, inventory control, or logistics experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience operating forklifts or comparable powered industrial equipment. Forklift certification is not required at the time of hire; Huntsman will provide required training and certification.
  • Experience using SAP or a comparable inventory-management system and performing cycle counts or inventory reconciliation.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and the ability to learn QT9, Workday, Vanquish, and other company systems.
  • Ability to read and verify material numbers, lot numbers, labels, quantities, warehouse documents, production schedules, and written work instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize changing requests while maintaining safety, accuracy, and timely service.
  • Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts, staggered hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, and adjusted schedules based on business needs.
  • Ability to successfully complete required respiratory protection medical evaluations, fit testing, and safety training.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Warehouse or inventory-control experience in chemical manufacturing, hazardous materials, or process manufacturing.
  • Experience handling flammable, corrosive, temperature-controlled, or regulated materials.
  • Experience supporting hazardous-material shipments, inventory audits, Lean activities, or 5S programs.
  • Experience operating Drexel equipment, drum lifters, scissor lifts, or similar warehouse equipment.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation: frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, squat, kneel, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive material-handling activities; lift, carry, push, pull, or position materials weighing up to 65 pounds; operate approved material-handling equipment after training; and wear required PPE and respiratory protection. Work is performed in warehouses, chemical manufacturing areas, cold rooms, warm rooms, freezers, shipping docks, outdoor yards, and other storage or operating areas. The environment may include temperature changes, noise, odors, dust, chemical vapors, moving equipment, and weather exposure.

  • The hourly rate for this position at the time of hire is$30.20 per hour. This position is scheduled Monday through Friday on either6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.or2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

  • Step progression is available based on qualification, with a minimum of 12 months before an associate may qualify for progression.
