What you will accomplish as a Planner at TAPCO:
The Production Planner II is a mid-level professional responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing production orders to ensure customer orders are completed on time and in full. This role coordinates closely with Purchasing, Sales, Engineering, Inventory Control, Warehousing, and Production to align material availability, capacity, and workflow. The position relies heavily on the Microsoft Business Central (BC) ERP system for planning, scheduling, and daily operational updates. A Planner II is responsible for performing a wide range of planning duties with limited supervision. This role conducts research, prepares reports, manages small projects, and provides technical guidance to junior staff.This position reports to the Planning Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties listed may vary in terms of importance and other duties may be added or eliminated as this position develops.
  • Follow company safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.
  • Review and execute planning worksheet action items daily.
  • Convert Firm Planned Orders (FPOs) into Released Production Orders (RPOs) when components are available.
  • Review FPOs with shortages and coordinate with Purchasing to align or expedite material availability.
  • Communicate regularly with Purchasing regarding open purchase orders and expected delivery dates.
  • Partner with Inventory Control to ensure inventory accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Schedule and release production orders to appropriate work centers based on capacity and priorities.
  • Collaborate with Production on large or high-priority orders to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Monitor and update item parameters (e.g., reorder points, safety stock) to support accurate planning.
  • Maintain and adjust customer lead times based on actual performance, capacity and company directives.
  • Create and maintain item numbers, routings, and bills of material (BOMs) as needed.
  • Review BOMs and routings with Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance including informal training to Planner I staff.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience
  • 2-5 years of experience as a production planner, scheduler, or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central (BC) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate effectively across departments.
