The Opportunity:
Collaborate effectively with mechanical engineers, software developers, and systems engineering teams.
Utilize strong analytical skills for debugging/troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and network analyzers.
Design and implement comprehensive control system architectures.
Work on marine platforms, including getting underway for hours at a time.
Contribute to the development of innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
Responsibilities:
Develop algorithms and state-machine logic based on complex project requirements.
Interface programmable logic controllers (PLCs) with sensors, computers, and other PLCs using analog, digital, and PWM signals as well as CANBus communication.
Design intuitive Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) for operator control and monitoring.
Document software functions, utilize version control, and manage software deployment.
Use AutoCAD or Solidworks Electrical (or similar CAD software) to build detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
Evaluate project requirements to select appropriate hardware and outline comprehensive control system architectures.
Determine interface information of hardware such as sensors, engines, actuators, hydraulic components, and 3rd party control systems via online documentation and OEM collaboration.
Design and integrate hydraulic systems for motion controls, including specifying electronic valve interfaces.
Size, select, and integrate linear and rotary actuators for precise physical positioning and motion control.
Design and size AC and DC power distribution networks and electronic power control systems.
Monitor, control, and integrate power storage, generation, and distribution systems.
Apply knowledge of grounding, shielding, and signal isolation techniques to mitigate electrical noise in high-power environments.
Perform comprehensive power load calculations and manage overall system electrical budgets.
Layout physical control panel/Electronics enclosures, including component spacing, through-hole penetrations, and wire routing.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical skills for debugging/troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues.
Experience in algorithm development and state-machine logic.
Experience interfacing PLCs with various signals and communication protocols.
Experience designing GUIs and HMIs.
Proficiency in documenting software functions and utilizing version control.
Proficiency using AutoCAD or Solidworks Electrical (or similar CAD software).
Ability to evaluate project requirements and select appropriate hardware.
Experience designing and sizing power distribution networks.
Desired:
Additional certifications or experience in PLC programming.
Experience with CAD software proficiency.
Experience working on marine platforms
