Job description

About Us

Applecart is the leading technology company that C-suites rely on to reach business-critical decision makers. The most important decisions are made by the hardest people to reach and influence. Historically, C-suite leaders have lacked the tools to reach the stakeholders who matter most to their business. The C-suites of hundreds of Fortune 500 companies, major agencies, trade associations, nonprofits, and governments use Applecart to put their best content in front of business-critical decision makers and those they trust — from policymakers and investors to CEOs, key employees, members of the media and more. Decision makers are informed by what they read, learn from advisors, hear from colleagues, and discuss with family and friends. To break through to them, you must reach them through the only channel that really moves them: those they know and trust. Applecart's platform uses publicly available data to map billions of social relationships between nearly every American adult and enable clients to deliver content directly to decision makers and those who matter most to them.

We are hiring an ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL in our NEW YORK CITY office.

About the Role:

Applecart is seeking a highly skilled, business-minded attorney with strong legal acumen and interpersonal skills to join our team as Assistant General Counsel reporting to the General Counsel. This role will touch all aspects of Applecart's legal and compliance strategy and practice, handling a diverse range of legal matters and providing business-forward advice and managing risk in a complex, dynamic organization. The Assistant General Counsel must be self-motivated and resourceful, able to learn quickly about the full spectrum of legal and regulatory issues facing the company, and able to manage multiple important workstreams at the same time. You will work closely with senior executives and internal clients, and represent the company externally in negotiations with a wide range of partners and vendors. You will be valued for your expertise and given the opportunity to learn and grow as an in-house legal partner.

What You'll Do:

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels and across all departments to identify and manage legal risk and devise creative solutions to advance the company's interests
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including vendor agreements, partnership agreements, technology agreements, data agreements and terms of service to secure favorable terms and ensure the company's interests are protected
  • Support the People and Talent teams on HR and employment-related matters for candidates, employees and contractors, including with documentation, policies, processes, and compliance
  • Assist with litigation and regulatory matters, including drafting, research, discovery review, and managing outside counsel
  • Monitor state data privacy and technology legislation and represent the company in the legislative process
  • Assist with the development and continuous improvement of legal templates and playbooks that support scalable and efficient processes in all functional areas

Experiences and Capabilities You Bring:

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admission and membership in good standing of the New York State bar
  • 8+ years' legal experience with Big Law experience
  • In-house tech company experience preferred but not required
  • Experience in litigation, with employment litigation and counseling experience a plus
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements (e.g., vendors, data providers, platforms, contractors, etc.) a plus
  • Excellent business judgment; intellectual curiosity and the ability to calibrate and balance legal and business requirements plus a knack for explaining complex legal concepts in lay terms
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited direction to prioritize workload, turn requests quickly and drive high value projects to completion with impeccable attention to detail
  • Willingness to engage in healthy debate and assert legal expertise while demonstrating a growth mindset and sense of humor

This is a hybrid role. Work from home on Monday and Friday and in Applecart's New York City office Tuesday through Thursday.

Compensation:

Our compensation package consists of three components: (i) a base salary, (ii) annual cash bonus, and (iii) generous equity compensation.

The base salary range for this role is between $225,000-240,000, based on the candidate's experience and skills relative to the requirements listed above.
