Job description

Description

This position operates a truck along an assigned route to collect and transport commercial waste, residential waste, and yard waste.

Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.

Completes required reports and logs.

Drives a refuse collection truck along an assigned route to collect solid waste, commercial waste, or yard waste.

Transports refuse to landfill.

Washes exterior or vehicle; keeps interior free of trash.

Performs routine maintenance on truck; checks fuel, oil and other fluids.

Oversees the work of personnel assigned to the truck.

Follows all traffic laws and regulations.

Maintains radio contact with dispatcher.

Performs related duties.

Requirements

Knowledge of city streets and landmarks.

Knowledge of equipment operation principles.

Knowledge of traffic laws.

Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Skill in the supervision of personnel.

Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment.

Skill in problem solving.

Skill in interpersonal relations.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Valid Georgia CDL Class "B" Required.
