Job description

  • Assist with department administrative duties as necessary to learn about the work being performed, and to contribute to completion of department workload
  • Assist welders with preparation of parts, fixtures, and tooling for aerospace welding operations
  • Learn and support TIG welding processes on stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium components (under supervision)
  • Perform basic welds, tacks, and joint preparation according to engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Inspect welded components for conformity using gauges, visual criteria, and basic measurement tools
  • Help maintain welding equipment, organize consumables, and ensure work areas meet 5S standards
  • Support creation or updating of weld documentation, including process sheets, travelers, and quality logs
  • Shadow senior welders and engineers to understand aerospace manufacturing requirements, such as NADCAP, AWS, or AS9100 procedures
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and shop best practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
Education/Training:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be actively enrolled in a post-high school educational program in welding technology or related manufacturing field of study

Experience:
  • 0+ years of professional experience in the required task area
  • Must have a basic understanding of written communication, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and document organization
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills required
  • Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and professional writing conventions required
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word; familiarity with Track Changes, comments, and document formatting preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat preferred
  • Ability to review written material for consistency, clarity, formatting, and grammatical accuracy required
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software, processes, and document standards required

Security:
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance may be required
  • Must have a basic understanding of work to be performed
  • Interns will work 15 - 25 hours per week; summer interns will typically work 40 hours
  • Must be willing to accept direction from, and interact professionally with supervisor and co-workers
  • Must work with integrity and follow assigned tasks through to completion

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to assess, install, and modify equipment, and inspect machinery
  • Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, grasp and reach with hands and arms, handle and operate hand/power tools and machine controls
  • Perform frequent wrist, hand, and finger movements
  • Prolonged periods of standing while operating machinery
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate safety gear (e.g., eyewear, gloves, masks, hearing protection, etc.) for the assigned task
  • Able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time
